-- Neutered dogs - showing?????? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=367207)
I personally dont think a nuetered animal should be showing. I also dont know anyone wasting there time hunting one, unless it was spayed or nuetured to save the animals life,i.e. health reasons.
But.............. With that being said, why not? I mean I've seen some big name show winners, that dont meet the breed standard Blueticks for example....... White dogs with a few black and blue spots and ticks. Dogs with Too much black and my personal favorite, ( I always loved getting beat on the bench by these)..... The Yellow eyed blueticks.
The judges let the above faults slide, cause the owners primp and prim them, they do look good, but just dont fit in the standard.
No; because its MY dog, MY choice...I don't think freedom to choose either will lead to the end of hounds.
As long as we are OWNERS we should be able to choose for ourselves.
By the way SB250 was defeated but I'm sure it will be back in some form or another and us dog owners who believe in freedom of choice with our animals will be here to defeat it again.

...as far as the dogs go, I'd love to spay my older female and show her, so on one hand I like the idea... but I do think we need to have some sort of system in place to keep people from neutering and summarily showing something like a bilateral cryptorchid - the purpose of showing dogs is to evaluate breeding stock. A dog like that would be poor breeding stock, as the condition is largely genetic (if the dog could even reproduce).

I think they approved showing all the 'other' breeds as alters???
If not yet then when???
It makes no sense to not allow them to be shown, especially in todays era of mandatory spay and neuter and way cheaper licenses for altered dogs (and getting it frozen and doing AI keeps getting better and cheaper).
Personally I am just getting sick and tired of my males p*ssing on everything and I'd just as soon get most of them collected and neutered.
Anyone know anything yet? Hope they approve it soon....snip, snip!!
And when Smarty Jones turns 5 what does he to look forward to???? His owners good graces? I had a tooth puuled today. Out of sight almost except from a woman that wants her man to have all his teeth. I realised I was gonna have to learn to laaugh out loud with my head turned askew or else I was gonna miss out on a certain portion of the good things life has to offer. Gettin old I recon, but what effect does that have on my ability to perform and look good if you don't look too close , Similar to a dog meat judge not automatically reachin around there to to check out the cryptoidy thing? Can you answer that?
some people crack me up
The new rule was passed and went into effect Jan 1 2011. If some one wants to spay or nueter their dog (hence their dog) more power to them. This choice should not keep them from earning a title. If the dog does not meet the breed standard it should be judged accordingly. If it doesn't meet the standard its not going to matter if he or she is intact. If your dog does not get picked on the bench you have the right, after the show, to ask the judge about his decision. Some people do not plan on breeding their dog and don't want to deal with intact dogs. I don't want to spay or nueter my hunting dogs but if someone else does this should be their choice. JMO

Well said rghnd123
Happy to find your post from SOMEONE who
"gets it" by reading the UKC 2011 rules.

lyle....rocks belong in the driveway not in the pipe.
If you don't know who is behind the mandatory spay and neuter movement just google HSUS to get started on your learning experience.
That being said...and now I'm directing this thought at those individuals who can have a civil and educated discussion.
I myself am wondering about how they will manage the potential for cryptorchid dogs to be shown. You could say its almost a moot point except for the fact that those dogs parents have the potential to throw more pups with that problem.
Maybe someone from UKC can answer?

Most of us are entertaining ourselfs like any other hobby. If you're playing with an altered dog it don't seem to be a long term hobby to me but I've also bought and raised more pups than I have bred, at least until recently. When you find something you really like you may not be able to keep it.
There are many dogs out there that their owners think are the best but fail to acknowledge why they don't win and in this instance playing altered may move them into something better .

I apologize that this is the only thing I'm taking from this thread, but if Smarty Jones was a gelding how the heck were people offering like 5mil for breeding rights after he retired..? I'm pretty sure the thoroughbred assoc doesn't allow AI, and his first crop of foals was born in 06...

yay!
I'm glad to year this - because I've had several females that I had a few litters out of and didn't want to breed anymore, but I still wanted to show them so I couldn't spay them, and had to keep dealing with the pain in the butt heat periods because I wanted to show them.
