-- 3 Dog Cast Question...... (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=364775)
I dont see how the rules support calling time out in this situation....
Maybe one of you can clarify for me?
8. TIME OUTS:
Judge or majority of cast if hunting Judge is used, may call time out in accordance with the following:
(a) When dogs are getting on highway, trail onto posted land or trail into a place where there is danger to dogs or hunters.
(b) When other hunters get too close. If dogs get with another group of dogs.
(c) If new ground must be found to finish cast and more than 15 minutes is required or have to move to new area by vehicle, call time out immediately.
(d) In case of accident or sickness.
(e) If cast becomes lost.
(f) If dog(s) declared treed, 10 minutes of hunting time may be demanded to search tree, or place of refuge, which is not a time out. No plus points will be awarded if coon is seen after 10 minutes shining time has elapsed.
(g) Time out will be called when dog(s) are trailing and out of hearing distance in different directions.
(h) Dog(s) declared treed, before time out is called, will be scored.
(i) Time out may be called to go from one split tree to another if all dogs are declared treed and more than 15 minutes is required to travel between trees. If dog leaves tree and goes back on track, time in continues.
NOTE: IF time out is called then time is out, and if dog should tree, it would not count except in accordance with 6(k). NO TIME IS TO BE CALLED OUT TO SEARCH A TREE OR WHEN DOGS ARE TIED TO BE LED AWAY FROM A TREE. (THIS IS A PART OF THE HUNT, UNLESS MOVING TO NEW AREA IN ACCORDANCE WITH 8(c).)

I dont disagree with Jim very often but I'm going to here. The dog was handled not almost handled but actualy handled. Call time out and give the man a chance to catch the dog and no you cant score the tree
Yea I guess that is true so you would either have to walk toward the dog or say it was in danger and call time out so you could locate the dog. If it was mine I would call time out and locate or withdraw and locate.

Its not at all what the rules say...
(a) When dogs are getting on highway, trail onto posted land or trail into a place where there is danger to dogs or hunters.
"A PLACE where there is danger"....
(g) Time out will be called when dog(s) are trailing and out of hearing distance in different directions.
You have 1 dog at large with its strike open, G can not be applied.
Its a bad break that the dog is wearing a length of chain, but if we are going to call time out, that dog is going to take minus on its strike.

rofl comical as heck
It seems to be a very common thing to call timeout anytime the judge or cast doen't know what else to do. Timeout isn't a loophole to bale a dog out. Josh copied the rule 8a thru i and nothing in those rules say call timeout because a dog leaves a tree. We got rules that say a dog must be handle before you can score the tree. We got rules that say a dog is minused for leaving a tree. We got rules that say when a dog is declared treed, the tree must be scored. Take your minus in this situation and then either continue the hunt, call tmne and take your minus on strike or withdraw your dog and run him down. Those the 3 option you have if you want to follow the rules.
Jim i dont thank you can let the dog continue to hunt.
a,b done nothing wrong what kind of strike pts are
you going to give them when opened.c has a unfair
advantage from the get go for next position even
if you - it.
I could see minuseing C for leaveing tree but you have 2 dogs on leash at this point and a dog running out of hearinf with half a leash on. My dog your dog or any bodies dog I would want to locate the dog before it got choked to death.
Isn't going to alter the hunt other than takeing the time to find it and take the leash off.

This has been a very intertaining thread..... LOL
Dogs a and b are scored according to their tree. Easy
Dog c has left the tree. Easy again, 125-.
Dog c is carrying strike points. If cast votes to call timeout because of the danger to dog c getting hung up. (This should be the call of dog c's handler!) Deleat strike points, call timeout. Handler has one hour to catch his dog.
Other option, dog c is carrying strike points. Cast does not vote to call timeout because dog c is not in any danger. Walk toward where dog c was heard last. When c is heard, a and b are recast. If not hear, c is minused and a and b are recast.
Other option, handler scratches dog c and goes to find him, while handlers a and b finish hunt.

If you are minusing him for leaving the tree than shouldn't you have also already minused him on strike for coming into him.He had caught him so show me a rule where you can catch a dog and not take minus.
