41 years started hunting with my dad. I was 4 years old when he started taking me. Never was in any trouble all I wanted to do was coonhunt. We need to get the kids involved in our sport it will keep them out of a lot of trouble and preserve the sport.

Went one time with an Uncle when I was 5 and decided I liked it. Nobody around here had coondogs so I didn't go again till I was 13 and bought my first Walker pup. We trained each other. I've managed to feed at least one walker coondog ever since for 45 years now. When this old Walker dies there won't be anymore. I have switched over to something better about 4 years ago.

Early to bed and early to rise might keep a man healthy, wealthy and wise. But with coonhinting, I figure two out of three ain't bad.

Every since I was big enough to pack the rifle for my older brothers. Still don't know all there is to know. Time gets away real quick any more .But with any luck when I die I'll be under the tree looking at a coon ,heaven don't get any better. Did I say I hunt ENGLISH dogs, makes it even better. TOM

I'm 50 and have been doing it as long as I can remember.
Shot my first coon out at age 6.
My dad started coon hunting before I was born. Not sure how old I was the first time I went. Can't remember my first time.

I remember reading my dads Full Cry mags when I was a teenager. I remember guys writing that they had been hunting for 30 to 40 years. I just laughed thinking " There ain't know way someone could hunt that long. "
I guess the jokes on me , because I'm not ready to quit yet.

I am sixty-three years old, I have hunted and handled everything from world champions to total idiots. My brother and I started possum hunting an old running walker female that had gone to treeing when we were about eleven and twelve. I took some time off for the Vietnam War, and had a hound at my house ever since. These hounds have afforded me a lot of pleasure, and a lot of pain, but the greatest thing they have afforded me are a host of friends all over the United States. Tom

The first time I can remember was when I was four years old. We were hunting in Rosman, N.C. in January or February as we moved to Florida in March. Dont know if Dad carried me before then or not as he has passed away. But I still love to hear a hound strike a track and run it to the tree. Forgot to add was in 1956 so at least 54 years.

Will turn 68 when bear seasons open this fall. Didn't get started until I was 19, when I was given what I believe was a Bluetick/pointer cross, to keep the coon out of our sweetcorn patch. Got first papered dog in 1968. He was a Plott puppy from Mississppi. He grew up to be a sure enough bear dog. Guess I've owned one or two of every color over the years, Got two B&T's , Three Walkers and Redtick at this time. Seem every year they get treed a little further from the truck. Headed back up to Michigan in couple of weeks.

I started when I was about 14!!! A older fellow gave an old bluetick gyp to my friend! He said she was a Coondog deluxe! We had never been coonhunting before. It was on Christmas night, so we decided to take her out!It was freezing cold that night, & all we had was some old flash lights to shine with. There was a big creek bottom behind the house where we grew up squirrel & deer hunting! So we took her & cut her loose & it wasnt long she struck a coon, & she run that coon all night. In & out of thickets, back & forth through the creek bottom. It was a miserable nite, & we was walking our butts off. I swore up & down that I would never go again!!!! She finally treed it, & had it! We shot it out & it was all worth while after that! I was hooked for life!!! Im now 32 & have been coonhunting ever since!!!

I started coon hunting when I was 13 years old 38 years ago. I did have my 1st tree dog at 8 years old. He treed squirrels, possums, and wood chucks in the day time. We were pretty much inseparable for 10 years. He was a fox terrier, crocker spaniel, and beagle mix. He even saved me from an attacking squirrel one day. He looked just like a miniature doberman without the cropped ears and tail of course. His name was Nickie after my buckskin pony that the city made us get rid of.
