Never ask a man what kind of dog he has. If he has a hound he'll tell you, if he does not, you don't want to shame him by asking.

A medium sized dog would be better at fencing or general hunting than a big ole gangling clumsy dog that's for sure.

All this focus on size is stupid. The smaller the hound, the more efficient they are...they're faster...for longer, eat less, require less water to hydrate and the smaller muscle mass doesn't fatigue like that on a bigger frame. Less weight on the joints equals a dog that has longer huntability. Larger framed dogs are ALWAYS more prone to bloat, or gut twist (this is a huge problem with blood hounds and any reputable BH breeder will always recommend stomach stapling). Also, volume of voice has nothing to do with size...the loudest dog I've ever heard n the ground and tree weighed 40 pounds even.

So, I get that some people like to stare out their window at an over sized hound...thats fine. You like what you like. Just dont spout off about how the big ones are superior...it shows ignorance on your behalf. And, for god sakes dont breed for increased size! By doing so you're breeding inferior hounds. For that, you should be banned from UKC and the other registries for damaging a breed...rather than preserving it..which is a breeder's duty!
