JERRY

YOU HAVE TO BE PERPARED FOR THE HUNT IS WHAT YOU ARE SAYING. I TELL THESE GUYS THEY NEED TO COME UP WITH A PLAN IF THEY HUNT CLOSE TOGEATHER ONE CAN HUNT EARLY IN THE NIGHT THE OTHER HUNT A DIFFERENT DIRECTION LATER.

Four lousy casts. Any club can't put local guides on a measley 4 casts has no business putting on hunts. Simple as that.

Jim, you don't understand how it is to not have the guides or members in a club. A club that once thrived, carried over 70+ dogs per hunt years ago now only has about five or six good solid members to run the club. People still show up for your hunts and fellowship. You put them in the woods with the best possible guide you can. Never once have I had anyone complain. Most of the time they thank you for putting forth the effort. Not shoot down the small clubs that helped get it all started. I do alot of our hunts at my home club(MOH). When I have to look for a guide, I ask how far they would have to drive and if anyone has a problem with that. Again never had a problem. I adjust the deadline and we send them out. People come back in from hunting to a hot breakfast, warm club house, and relax until time to see who won. I guess the main difference here is most people still enjoy the sport and not just getting a win slip, not just putting a title on a dog, but earning a title on their dog. Most of the time we have people hang around and just talk until way after the hunt is over. They compliment our club on not being in a hurry but on trying to put on the best hunt possible. It doesn't matter if we have ten dogs or thirty dogs, we still put on the best hunt we can. All with only five or six solid members. So again, before you run the smaller clubs in the ground for only being able to handle 4 registered casts, and ? nite champion casts. These are clubs where most of the work are on the shoulders of fewer people. Five people trying to put on a show and hunt for 16 dogs is like thirty people trying to put on a show and hunt for 300 dogs. Same thing just smaller scale.

I understand about the permits. I handle all of that for our club. I also do most of our hunts and don't get to hunt my own dogs very often. So I do drive to alot of clubs that are not in my own area. I moved last summer, so I drive an hour and 45 minutes to everyone of our hunts to sit and do the MOH and cook breakfast and stay until the club is clean and back in order. You don't have to complain about having to drive so far, talk to the club about getting the permits so you can guide next time. I am sure they would do the paper work so they would know they had a good solid guide next hunt. We need to work together, we have enough oposition (HSUS, PETA, etc....) Work to make local clubs stronger, visit area clubs and offer your help if needed. There are several clubs around that have my number and can call me and can send a cast my way anytime. Never had to do this but the offer is on the table if they need to. You should be ready to do whatever it takes to go hunting anytime you go to a hunt( guiding, judging the cast, sit on panel, etc.....) Because as we all know, anything can happen when you go to a hunt.

I have seen your posts on here and try to read them and look at the pictures. I really enjoy seeing people getting together and having FUN. All of my hunting will slow down after June, I start school in July and it runs until December. Thank you for the invite and keep posting the results and pics. You guys got a great thing going and I usually see alot of pics of youngsters there. Great job.

Sorry nc hunter,we do need to work together.I do enjoy our hunts, not just my home club hunt. These days its everyman for himself and screw the other cast. I have never saw it,but have heard of 75-100 dogs at a local hunt when they were 3 hour hunts.never heard of them having to beg for quides.with all the kc we have and hunts every night of some sort except sunday, maybe hunters and clubs take them for granted.Maybe ukc should cut the # of hunts a club can have a year.It used to mean something to have a ntch and oh my gosh if you had a grntch. Now it seems you just have another dog no matter what title it has hung on it.Even Major hunts dont mean as much with all the cheating going on,if you won right or wrong you cheated. PS I know this is of subject, but true. WHAT I AM GETTING AT IS PEOPLE CARING ABOUT WHAT KIND OF HUNT YOUR CLUB PUTS ON AND HUNTERS TAKING PRIDE IN THEIR CLUB HUNTS.IF YOUR A MEMBER OF A CLUB,MORE THAN LIKELY YOU CAN HELP QUIDE IF YOU WILL!

Brent, I wasn't arguing with you. I don't see the point in complaining. Everybody has issues, every club has issues. If I go to a hunt or just to hunt with friends, I always plan on driving, guiding, or whatever is needed. I have went to my home club and planned on hunting. Got there and the MOH calls and can't make it. I leave my dog tied and do the MOH. No biggy, it is for the club. We have members who show up ten minutes before deadline, enter, and then get mad because I let another person guide. Well, I know they may be driving further but they will not be turning beside highways, hunting cutover, and basically will be in better hunting. All I want people to see is that without the little clubs scattered all over the countryside, how far will you have to drive then? As clubs start to drop hunts they can't pay the bills, and they will shut down. We make alot more money off of UKC hunts then anyother KC. As far as titles go, I am proud of my dogs titles. I know most people are honest and it takes alot of time and effort to put that title on a hound. But you are right, I don't pay as much attention to the all grand stuff anymore, or even a dog with a title. I like to hunt with the dog and a man who won't show you what he has, doesn't have much at all anyway. I like to enjoy my hounds no matter their age, ability, or title.
