Whatever you do, don't give Zimectrin Gold to puppies. It is as toxic as antifreeze when given to pups.

To get the same amount of fenbendalzole that is found in the safeguard canine granuals, you should give 1.1 cc (I round down to 1 cc) per every 5 pounds. ex. 50 pound dog gets 11 cc. Must be given 3 days in a row. A 125 ml bottle runs around $16. That would treat that 50 pound dog for a year if you do this every quarter ( 4 times per year). If they are on dirt, you may need to do this more often. It's a lot of liquid to try to get down them, so I usually squirt it on some bread or in a little milk and they lap it up.

If I had some purchased, I would probably just give to someone with a horse. Now if someone is dead set on using paste, you could use the plain Zimectrin (ivermectin) and TapeCare plus which is just praziquantel and dose them seperately.
Thats pretty much the same thing I was thinking, I used it a couple times the last few years to get tapes, it worked but I was worried about the Ivomec, I had not figured the dosage it took at the time but thought it was a little high just doing quick math in my head, I dont give Heart worm preventative, it might hit me today, knock on wood but having at least 4 dogs around since 1975 I have never had a dog get Heart Worms, I have heard of a couple over the years, but back 10 or 15 years ago even Vets would tell you you probably didnt need it north of Tenn.

I remember when Ivomec first came out, some said it was the greatest since sliced bread, others said it would kill your dog, I used it some back then, I will tell you that way back then we gave some dosages of it that would make your eyes and mouth fly open and it didnt kill any dogs, I did notice one dog later frequently urinating, I thought the Ivomec may have been the cause and hardly ever used it since, you have to understand that was years ago, things are a lot different now, some things back then that were common place, would get you put in jail today.
