Buckshot,
I can see why you like Bassets,,,they look like you/or you look like them,,,,regardless, they're some GOOD looking hounds!!...
I hi-jacked my husband account just to post this!...coon huntin widow
My vote is for the German Shepherd,,mine live to be 17 years old,,my kids got to play with him for years before he died!

Posted by Tyler Vaden on 04-30-2010 03:15 PM:

To play ruff in the yard I like American Bulldogs and Boxers. To be smart and not have to tell over and over what to do a Border Collies or an Australian Shepherd. To keep somebody in the car and out of the yard Heeler all the way.

My American Bulldog

This my boxer Tank at 5 months old in this pic and 45 LBS.

TW, B&T, Blue Heelers, Miniature Dauchsans, German Shepards.....My all time favorite dog was a Blue Heeler named Rebel. That dude went to work with me every day for 2 years. Would ride in the truck, on the tractors, 4 wheelers, lawn mower, just whatever I was on he had to go to.....I even trained him and my horse to where he would jump up on the back and ride behind my saddle with me!!! I have never had a dog since him that was as loyal or protective of me as he was. I would pay a lot of $ if I could have another one just like him. My 2nd best dog ever was a TW....she just died Easter weekend. I could go on for hours about those 2 dogs!!!

Australian Shepherd. Grew up with them, and my mom raise's the old style working dog. Great to have around to help gather up the horses and roping steers. Just like with hounds, I love to see a dog work. They are very smart and love their job whatever it is.

I'm a dog lover as well

I'm a hound man at heart but I love them all. I have had a dog as long as I can remember. I had hounds as a child and as teenager. Had a fox hound as a kid. Didn't hunt him on fox though. My ancestors were fox hunters before my time. My
Grand father was a bird dog man. He raised and trained pointers.

We have had Pekingese, Pugs, Bull mastiffs, English Bulldogs, mixed breed mutts... one or two I've forgotten I'm sure. Loved em all! Theo... our Bulldog was a heart grabber. Lost him last september. He was almost nine.

Have three Blueticks Coonhounds at the present. The only dogs we have now.

I loooove the Plotts, and love having them inside as all-purpose dogs, but I'm with Buckshot - I ABSOLUTELY ADORE my skinny, muscular, ready-to-work, BASSET HOUND! She's the best dog ever. She'll be 10 in less than a month, and everyone always thinks she's a puppy

The standard poodle I grew up with was the smartest, most personable dog I've ever had the pleasure to train.

I love love love my American Pit Bull Terrier. She's smart, drivey, and eager to please. She'd be the perfect dog if she got along with the others - she has an "interview" tonight with a family looking to give her a good home with no other pets

As far as dogs I've never had and would love to - a papillon, poorly bred peke (piebald with no double coat... my peke will have to be a rescue someday...), shih tzus, border collie (an old one, lol).

Autumn - that BorderXbluetick looks like it would be the ultimate working dog...

My Favorite breed other than Coonhounds is the MT Cur.
I have hunted with them for several years, and often run a MT Cur in the Company of hounds.
They are great dogs.
If you ever get a Mountain Cur, and a Hound to work together, they can tree alot of game together.

Here is a Picture of Rex, Gone but not forgotten, I am raising the Third Generation from him now.

Besides our Blueticks, We raise Boston Terriers.... I love 'em! You can't find a better buddy! They are suprisingly athletic, and easy to train. There isn't much cuter than a Boston puppy either... except for maybe a Bluetick pup!

Grandpa and "the Girls".... You always have a "friend" on your lap in my house! Sometimes two or three.

My stud dog Marley as a young pup...

Marley at 6 months...

Beautiful Noelle...fourth generation of my breeding:

Walkers and American Pit Bull Terriers. What I was raised around my whole life...

This is my old retied girl Dee Dee,
GRCH Navarro Hot Shot's California Classic (in her much younger days)

She just turned 9 years old. She loves to HUNT as well. She don't know what for, but she gets in the bush and goes! Tracking collar required (especially now shes almost deaf) In fact I just got done chasing her down this morning, we were roading the dogs and she tried going to someone else's dogs treed... She can't hear me calling her, but she can hear dogs treed!
