Did UKC ever have foxhound events like they do for coonhounds and beagles? My great-grandfather and uncles never did events. Their's was purely pleasure hunting.

I read that former first lady Jackie Kennedy was an avid fox hunter. Wow, I had no idea. I was reading about fox hunting history on the internet and came across it. Jackie went fox hunting every weekend it seems. It was said to be her favorite sport. That's so interesting. I wish we had a first lady now that loved to fox hunt. That would be great. If that was the case the sport wouldn't be in danger of dying out. I feel so stupid to not have known that Jackie Kennedy loved fox hunting. Did anyone else not know this?

I didn't! It was of the fancy type I'm sure.

Oh yea, the very fancy type. However, it was still fox hunting with hounds. Mrs. Kennedy was a member of a hunting club in Virginia, an exclusive club to be sure. She did it on horseback, as she was a great horsewoman. I think she would hate it today that so many people want to ban the sport.

i would have to agree that the field trials are a little more layed back than a coon hunt. i just recently sold all my deer/fox/yote hounds
gettin ready to leave for a field trial

my three fastest fox/deer hounds

THOSE RED JULY'S IN THAT BOX? BACK WHEN I USE TO YOTE HUNT/FIELD TRIALS I RAN JULYS AND HAD A WALKER OR 2 COLORED UP LIKE THAT. ANYWAY GOOD LOOKING HOUNDS!

Outside! At a private hunt club.
Not having pens doesn't stop the hunting it just means you have to keep a tighter handle on the pack. It also exposes the hounds to more danger from roads...but that is part of the hunt.

I'm pretty sure Michelle Obama is having this board monitored what with all the Obama comments we see here. I expect she will be a Fox Hunter before long!

Fox Dogs

When i was a Teenager they would turn fox dogs aloose after the dew fell in the summer months. you could hear them running all over the place around where i lived. many mornings you could hear a pack running while you set and waited on the School buss to pick you up. Those where the days when the woods where open and the hounds where free to rome and run. i sure do miss that. give me 4 good walkers and a couple of fast July Hounds on a good 4 hour race any time. those dogs would run all night long and part of the next day.................

fox dogs

I field trial about once a month now but I used to go somewhere every week. Its alot of money tied up just for one day. The speed drive cost $25 and a two or three day will cost $35 to $50 dog. When u carry 5 dogs every weekend, u do the math it costs!! Then u have the money hunt that costs $100 a dog. Their friends are judging the hunt so u cant win. Ive made 5 champions in the field, got tired of it and wanted to make a champion in coon hunting. It doesnt cost a third of what I would spend in one weekend hunt. I have 46 walkers and all of them are soild white.

The good old days

I have a issue of Hunters Horn a fox hound magazine from 1959 that has the winner of the US Open that was held that year in Camden, S.C. On the cover is Mr. Horace Rorie and his big white fox walker, Big Boy, the USO Champion. I spent a many a night listing to his and other peoples' fine fox hounds trying to put a gray fox up a tree or a red fox in a hole in the ground. Has anyone ever made your way to a slab pile to get the dogs that had run a fox in at a old sawmill in the woods.---------------------------boy I had some fine times growing up as a fox hunt.

I still fox and coyote hunt some with my dad, most of the time we turn loose in a pen and it is wall to wall running all the time. I love almost as much as I love coon hunting. You can check out www.masterfox.net or www.speeddogs.net for some interesting foxhunting message boards like this one.

He was very well known in the Va. , Nc. and Tenn. area. He was a legend in the fox huntin world and one of the finest men I ever knew. Just was wonderin if yall had ever heard of him. GOD BLESS YALL.

I found a fox hunting club around Arlington, Texas called Hickory Creek Hunt. Anyone ever heard of this? From the website it looks pretty good, but I'm wondering if maybe it's for more elite, upper crust type people. I'm not one of those. In this club to participate in hunts you have to own a horse, and you have to wear the traditional riding attire. It seems fancy.

Real Fox Hunting

Well I guess some people might call that fox hunting but to me that is not real fox hunting. Thats more like a social event. But I guess all competitions are social event. What ever strikes your fancy.

Never ask a man what kind of dog he has. If he has a hound he'll tell you, if he does not, you don't want to shame him by asking.
