About the small or large supers... We have never used the small supers. I guess how you plan to extract the honey would determine what you use. If the hive fills up with bees then they will swarm. When honey is coming, give them Supers as they fill them up with honey. If you put on 5 supers at one time you'll notice the queen fills them up with brood and less honey. Hope this helps.

Concerning swarming, sometimes the hive will rear its own queen when this happens, the old queen and some loyal workers will leave with her (swarm). Also, the virgin queens must be bred on the outside of the hive these swarms are usually smaller and only travel a short distance before returning to the original hive.(mating swarm).

The ??? is why did they swarm so soon? We put the new swarm in a big super and plan to do the same to it. They swarmed about 45ft up in alil oak i had to trim it all the way up to be able to cut the limb and lower it down to dad talk about nerve racking!

Ryan, I understand what you're talking about, but what I need to know Is about the brood boxes. I put these bees in 1 bottom board, 1 deep brood box, and 1 top cover. should I put another deep brood box on top of the brood box thats on the hive?? then when they get a good start on that put a queen excluder and add supers as they need It.

Ryan, If I want to make comb honey, could I have 1 brood super, and put the shallow super on top of the brood super??
And when the shallow super gets full of honey, do I take It off or move It to the top and put a empty super underneath It??
Thanks Ryan, I'm slow or stupid lol

Ryan, I've had these bees in the hive for three weeks. Went into them, they had the brood box 90% full of honey, and brood. put a super on them and man their working like crazy. all I have to do Is lay back and wait on the little jokers to fill It up.
Thanks again Ryan

That's great news! Glad I could help you out a little. Won't be long and you'll get addicted and have 50 hives for a little retirement money. lol My advice is to get 2 hives started side by side. That way you can tell quicker if one is going downhill or not. Don't worry about the expense of it, name your price for comb honey and people will buy it! lol I'll try to get a pic of our honey room that we extract in. It'll show what "just a hobby"
led into for my dad.
