When I go to a comp hunt I have fun. When I go pleasure hunting I have fun. I use the same dogs for both!

allthough i dont hunt the hunts as much as i would like to anymore,i pleasure hunt the same dogs i do hunt in hunts i go to. my pleasure hounds are my competion hounds,if it aint good anoff to win a hunt i dont feed it long. it just takes a certain type of hound to please me. i do seperate the 2. but my idea of a pleasure dog is probaly diffrent from others, i think they are slower to run track an to locate a tree, my type of hound, leaves in a dead run opens fast drifts a track good, an gets treed an stays treed,under any type of pressure,an is very accurate.(knowing there not perfect). just my opinion.(reckon that kind of dog is my pleasure hound an competion hound to)

Well thanks for all the the comments to my question..Its been fun reading the different views.My point with the question is a really good coondog that trees coons,but does it in a way that you just can't score in a comp hunt...That there are great hounds out there that will never have a title or be in a mag...And now days folks are over lookin these hounds just becuse they're not a GRANDNIGHT CHAMP...So many times I see on here and other places of people wanting to know what happen to the old blood???? I blame comp huntin to the disappearing old blooded hounds.....



Ps....JUST REMEMBER THE MAIN RULE OF COONHUNTING!!!!!! THE DOG RUNS THE DOG BARKS AND YOU FOLLOW....END OF STORY

I've said it before and I'll say it again! THE WORST THING THAT HAS HAPPENED TO COONHUNTING IS BEING ABLE TO TITLE A DOG. It should have stayed at a trophy, a gun, maybe a dog box, or maybe a couple sacks of dog food. Titles are a cancer to the sport. Old farmer johns dog could be a better candidate for your female, but most people wouldn't even think twice about it because he ain't titled or god forbid maybe he isn't papered at all. It use to be about meat in the tree, now it's how big of a prefix can you have before the dogs name. And how much money can I get in the stud barn. I'm a pleasure hunter and would take a grade dog anyday, more meat on the table at the end of the day if you ask me. JMO

reading all these posts makes you think you cant have the best of both worlds. if i had a comp dog that i could not pleasure hunt because of slick trees i would look at what i had on the end of my lead strap.because more than likely if your dogs gets treed quick and slick trees and the so called pleasure dog trees coons he should win unless you are cheater period and you should not be hunting in the hunts with that trash anyways !plus if you plus those spider eyes and get people to agree with you.that would be pretty embarassing to know your dog was trash and you conned your way to a title of some kind.

Keith sounds like you have a real nice dog, but if he hunts like you say he cant beat the top comp. dogs. While hes hunting the automatic strike dogs and the babblers will already be on the card and if he takes his tracks as he comes to them those hot nosed dogs will score about three popups while he trees his coon the right way.
Dont get me wrong a coondog can do some winnin, just not the big ones.
