-- trophies and plaques at hunts? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=343034)
I never go to just your average local event expecting to get a trophy or plaque if I win. However, if I go to an event because I saw an ad in a magazine or something like and I'm paying $20 or $25 each for entries it's nice to get a little something. Trophies and plaques are nice, but I think folks would appreciate even something as little as having win photos taken. One of my favorite plaques I won had a picture frame attached to it, and the host club printed out the win pictures for everyone to put on their plaques. If you've won a lot it may not be a big deal to win a trophy, but for young folks and those just starting out it is.

The clubs should do more than just give a win slip, in most cases. Poor Boy Hunts and little club events maybe not, but definitely for others such as RQE's, Sectionals, or Memorial events. Those entry fees are almost always higher, and you should get something other than a slip if they are going to charge more. In all cases I think the kids should get something for winning, I know ours are absolutely thrilled by a little kiddie trophy.
As for myself and hubby, didn't used to think we were to attached to those trophies collecting dust on a shelf. After loosing our best dog recently, those trophies now each stand for a fond memory of a girl we loved dearly.
I do like the idea of other gifts besides trophies, many have already been mentioned. Regardless of what the prize is, I believe it does help bring people back.

winning t-shirts for open, ntch, grntch would be a great idea for kids. i know when i buy my son a shirt at the bigger hunts he wears them till he either wears them out or out grows them. thats something they could show off anywhere.

If the event is not advertised as a Poor Boy event the club is supposed to give out some kind of awards. If the club does not, it is false advertising plain and simple. Lets be real, most seasoned hunters don't even take the trophies, so the club doesn't have to buy many. It is a poor excuse to say that the club can not afford the awards.
