right sounds like the dog you need to be hunting with
I hunted him the first half of the season with my friends plott and she was a hell of a track dog. Well she died and I been huntin him on his own. I decided that it might have been best for him to start workin his own tracks out instead of relying on the plott to pick up his hang ups for him.
so split the time you hunt him between the 2.
the plott had problems with the tree end to right.
I can’t tell you anything about your dog but I can tell you my experience. I have a gyp at my house that is 8 coming 9 and when she was about 15 months old I wanted to kill her. She went from being a very impressive pup to a real idiot of a young dog. She was making slick after slick and I was sick of it. I told a friend that I was either going to cure her or ruin her. I started whooping her at every tree I couldn’t find a coon (dead winter time). I started shining the tree before I got to her and if I didn’t find him I ran her off. She got to where if she didn’t have a coon she would leave before I got there. If she had one she would stay. Then one night when she left a tree I noticed a squirrel in the tree beside the one she left. I took her the next day a shocked her on a squirrel track. It cured her after that I stopped going to (slick trees).
Ive honestly thought about squirrells before. I took him one mornin before daylight back when He first started. On the way out it was just breakin day and a squirrel ran across the road. He didnt see it but when we crossed it man he liked to have riped my arm out of socket lol. I dont really think hes got the nose for a old squirrel track that walked before nightfall and if it is a big fox squirrel out messin around on a full moon night they flat do some runin before he does tree. Hes runin tracks for 15 or 20 mins that go for 300 or 400 yards maybe more.
Yea the plott werent a real hard tree dog byherself so he helped her with that end. I really wish she was still alive and I would love to split the time. I could go some with the other guy I spoke of some. Ive thought of that too. I dont no. He seems to be comin along a little. Before the other night he may get one every two weeks right out of 3 nights a week of huntin. Well the last two nights I took him, one was 100% and the other He got one out of four right and only one of the three I didnt find a coon was a sure fire slick the other two were questionable. I tell you though, the internet is a great thing isnt fellers. This maybe one of the greatest training tools there is cause nothin is better than other folks experience and I appreciate everyone of yalls advice.
