-- do you remember your first hound? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=330636)

My first hound was a Black & Tan female that was the best Possum and Armadillo dog i've ever scene.Only treed 1 coon in my year with her. But boy did we give everything else hell...LOL My first COONDOG was a REDBONE that i got out in Oklahoma as a 10 week old wormy shy dog that made a heck of a fox hound till i woke up and got a shocker and after that i had a pretty good coondog up till the night he died at 7.5 years old. Wish i could have found another to replace him but a few local guys gave me a walker and the rest is history. I still love a nice big ol redbone though. Most of the ones i've scene around here look like chocolate labs and are small. Heres an old shot of me and OKIES first wild coon...

Not the First

But I remember just going out to the kennels as a very young boy my parents have told me they would find me there just staring at the dogs, I could not wait til i was 8yrs old thats when dad said I could go for my first outing. Man spent many hours just wondering how they hunted those coon do you turn the dogs loose? do you hold the leash and let them track while running behind them? So many questions all I wanted to do was get behind those hounds. There were many houds that gave me many memories not just one walkers and the Blue English and when my uncle put the two together they were unstopable! I have to say I still get this excited today when hunting pups and seeing them do what there ancestors has passed on to them. I guess thats how I rember my first hound is thru all the young dogs I get going its like never letting go of your FIRST!

my first hound was a walker/english cross. the darn thing would tear a cage coon up but as soon as the coon was out of the cage she wanted nothin to do with it. still have her and she is 4 years old. we both have the same birthday and i will keep her til the day she dies.

I had two, a redbone and a walker, both were scared of the dark. You could find them under a security light somewhere. But they could make you deaf when they tree'd a cat during the daylight hours. lol

NtCh Pine Barren's Blue Iron Jones

I got him when he was 14 months old and green started. I hunted the hair off him for the better part of 5 years and he was a nice solid hound that did a little winning all over the country. When he was around 6 life happened and I slacked up some but up until he disapeared out of the pen at 11 years old he'd still tree a coon most times you un-snapped him. I sure do miss that old dog, he taught me a lot about coon hunting and about life in general.

First good hound

Mine was a son of Willie Davis Screaming Eagle dog back in the very early 80s when I around 12 or 13 years old. Good ole hound had some faults like all do, but still a coon dog. he taught me a lot about the sport of coon hunting. Man I miss those days didnt worry about a thing just where I was going to hunt the next night.
