You're exactly right. Guide might not see it as dangerous. If I feel it is too dangerous, I'm going to state that to the entire cast before cutting loose. If the majority doesn't agree, I'll withdraw. Probably still make the club aware of it.

In your second example, I guarantee I'm going back to the clubhouse and letting them know about it.

Is there anything UKC do about it? No. But if you let the club know they can choose whether to consider that feedback for they're next event. If they choose to ignore it, I'll find another club to attend.

As a club official and another just as a concerned club member, I can tell you of at least 2-3 situations where cast members returned to the club and told me they're dogs were put in danger by the guide. From highways, to sensitive homeowners, to folks firing guns. I've gone back in the daylight and looked at the spots to see if they were in fact possibly dangerous spots. I've also told club guides to avoid certain areas at certain times, just in case.

Heck, I've guided myself on a cast and had to call timeout do to someone randomly shooting in the area, cost my dog a Nite Ch win. But if there is a potentially touchy homeowner in the area I'm going to make the cast aware of it so they can decide for themselves. At the very least, they'll know we'll have to call timeout if dogs get near that area.

you are right back years ago they did not have the formal complaint forms BUT now they do and i have used them I did not hunt in the hunts for 5 or 6 years because i was tired of all the people trying to cheat and all the aruguing well I'm back into them now and if a person tries to cheat me or argues with me i will file one in a heart beat.

when i judge a cast before the dogs are out of the truck on the first drop there is 2 things i say to the cast.
1 if there is something about your dog that i should know tell me now.
2 if i make a call that you do not like we can talk about it like men because that is what we all are we can bring it up for a vote how ever it turns out that is the way it is end, of discussion, if you yell at me or argue with me or anyone elese in this cast YOU WILL go to the truck. that is the only worning they get, i have had very few problems in a cast.

I have a place were it is a mile to a pavement and it isn't very buisy. There is a creek that runs threw the section thick with coon. Out of years of hunting it the only dog I ever saw blow threw it had dogs treeing behind it and I have people not want to turn out on it. I don't care becouse I have thousands of acres spread out in every direction to hunt. It is just close,handy and hsa a lot of coons. Oh and easy walking. LOL

I have been accused of dry holing in a PKC added purse hunt. Had 4 hard hunting dogs. 2 of which hunts just as hard as I have ever seen. First drop 2 of the dogs run a fast track over 3 miles to where we called timeout because of crossing a highway. Mine was one of them. Went back to same area and treed a coon within 100 yards. Walked 50 more yards and dropped again and 3 dogs went 300 yards and slicked while the female went an extra 100 yards and treed in a big swamp on a huge den. I got accused of dry holeing on that drop by a handler that was hunting a dog that is winning everything in PKC these days just because I won. Not saying anything bad about the dog he is one of the hardest hunting dogs I know and there was no way to dry hole him. We had 1 hr and 5 minutes left when he put in that I dried holed him. Turned me in to PKC, but they didn`t believe him.

If I fill I have been dry holed I blame no one but my dog for not hustling a little harder to find one.

Been reading posts and laughing at the amount of people who I really wonder how much they've been down the road.

You can dry hole dogs. period.
The guys who say you cant dry hole a coon dog, you might be right on a pleasure hunt, but under u.k.c rules you can definitley do it.

I cant tell you how many times we've had a dog or two get deep cause we were dumped in a place thats overhunted and TRapped to boot!!! Then just try to convince the cast you heard your dog strike over 1 mile away with a 20 mph wind bowin hounds mouths away from you. I wish I had a dollar for every coon my dogs have treed or others have treed, while on a time out.

Yes you really have no choice ,but to call a timeout when your burning down the clock and dogs are out of hearing, and nobody knows where , and better yet try the guide getting lost a few times. pretty fun.

The answers to the problem are complicated, clubs are really at the mercy of the men that will guide. Be real interesting to see how many clubs can sustain themselves in the future with such low amounts of guides and hunting ground available.

hey kdcoondog sounds like these ol boys are starting to educate (teach) me something. Lets say you get dryholed again if you know the rules like your suposed to then the smart thing to do is to ask for another location because it is unsafe for your dog to run across a two (2) mile plowed field. There are many things a dog can die from doing that like, overheating, dehydration (he was thirsty and didnt have water), he could be allergic to the fertilizer. And I almost forgot there could be the drunk farmer still plowing or planting

DEFINITION

"Dry Hole" : a spot you turn a dog loose in after it's handler has made you mad.

"Honey Hole" : a spot you turn your dog loose in after a real coondog has hunted your "dry hole".

...another thought.............there is more than one way to 'dry hole" a cast..at least in UKC, where the number of points a cast winner has matters.................I have a couple places where we've shook out coons to be treed again, SEVERAL times..............you turn the BEST dogs in the country loose on a couple of these coons...........you'll strike quickly......it will matter little.............they don't want to get treed, they'll swim and run your dogs around the beaver pond till they're tired of doing it....then climb a den.............you'll tree the coon eventually...........but you sure won't get any plus points............AND burn most of the time out................never done this to anybody, and don't intend to.........just sayin'.............

Sounds to me like most of these boys haven't hunted enough to know what getting dry holed is or their all hunting with honest people who don't try to pull every little trick out of there arsenall to win. This is one example of getting dry hole. I was putting it on this dude all night. With about 23 min left in hunt two dogs get scratched for fighting, so now it's just me and him. Now boys we was sure nuff was in the coons ain't doubt about that. Now Ive been took in every way possable so I'm watchin this ol boy close. We been in the coons all night but I made a couple of dumb calls and let this boy catch up the score is 575 to 600. Boys were looking at the high scoreing cast of the lone star 5000 theres 130 something dogs there this night. What I'm trying to say is the moneys on the line!!!! Well now that he's ahead he decides to move to the middle of this field with two trees in it with no coon around heck you could turn your light on bright and look around and see that's obvious. Well we cut loose and the two dogs messed around for 23 mins and ran the time out. He wins, takes the money and runs. Maybe it's my dogs fault for not running to timbucktoo but I say why we move in the first place. This is an old school trick called dry holding so I'm putting it out there so y'all uneducated boys can prevent this from happening to you. I don't think there is anything I could do, no roads or guns being shot no danger. Just an old school trick called dry holeing cost me 950 an I for sure had the better dog that night, rest of the week my dog look like a idiot.

Sorry about that one sentance in there I wrote to much and didn't get back to it so it sounds kinda illerate but I ain't the brightest bulb in the pack.
