I agree. Look at the ancestry on most dogs and it will definitely surprise you. Read up on the English dogs. They were the first to be registered as coonhounds and were actually registered as English fox and coonhounds.

If all goes as planned, I will be breeding a Homer female to a real nice Main Street Roy male.

Walker X Blk dog is best.

Hard Rock nuff said.

i have seen" some "dogs now, but not as many as quite a few of the hunters on here

but from what i have seen(maybe not enuff black 'n tans) but otherwise i think anuff of the other coonhound breeds(plus what i have heard reports of/////some of these reports accurate and i am sure some NOT)..... ........I THINK THERE IS ENUFF DIFFERENT TRAITS OUT there within each ones own breed (AND MOST BREEDS HAVE THESE SAME TRAITS WITHIN THEMSELVES)that crossbreeding is absolutely unneccassary(if the owners want to ,go ahead as long as you are crossing for the right reason!!), but the problems within the breeds is that i think there is too much "publicity!"" on some dogs and not enuff knowledge of some others.. when doing your mating dont jump just because old"" coon cruncher ""won every hunt 2 years straight, yes he may be the greatest dog in the country, but might be the worst stud for your use. mate for traits desired/needed. not just because of what that dog has accomplished (not bashing titles!!!!!) but the reason for this post is discussing crossbreeding to make better dogs and it might but i think the purebreeding could do just as much, with anuff correct planning and understanding of the stud dogs available,AND MOST IMPORTANTLY ""KNOWING WHAT YOUR OWN DOGS ARE!!!"

I'd cross a walker with a giraffe so it could check its own tree, might cut down on a few slick trees. HOOOOWAAAA!

Posted by hmbdog1 on 01-20-2010 07:16 PM:

lots of good crosses out there but still one king of the mountain.

Well, Maybe your right on what a person desired traits are Hounds were my living as a guide since 87' I've seen almost every imaginable cross on hounds known to man. Some of the best I had were a cross bred. The most money I have sold a dog for came from 57 1/4 english1/4 blk&tan1/4walker1/4plott,what I needed too tree as many bear in a season as I could would not be the same as what a pleasure or competition hunter would like. That being said I still say until another crossbred hound wins more money Than Hard Rock no matter if he has bad, good or great traits. The Walker Blk tan cross is still your top cross.

I'd breed a collie to a pit bull. I think it might clear the woods of substandard hounds and tree a hot easy coon.

But even if it didn't, I'd be up near the driver's seat of the Fad Bandwagon and could scream, "look at me, look at me!"

Thats what its all about, ain't it? I think I'm learning how this works...

i'D POBABLY TAKE A FULL BRED UCHTMAN BLUETICK FEMALE AND CROSS HER ON A FULL BRED SEBASTIAN BLUETICK MALE. OR I MIGHT TAKE A FULL BRED HUNZIKER BLACK AND TAN AND BREED IT TO A FULL BRED SMITHURST BLACK AND TAN. WAIT A MINUTE, IS THAT A CROSSBREED?

i couldn't agree more hardrock was a great hound i often wonder about the rest of his litter but it seems he doesn't reproduce as good a hound as he was

I've made some crosses ....

Airedale - Walker
Jag-Plott
Walker - B&T
BMC - B&T

Right now I've got .... Jag-Pitbull.

In the future , I want to try the B&T blood mixed with the jag/pit or some kind of terrier.

The jag crosses make the closest thing to a hybrid with some extra umphhh!!!

Posted by Toby Flick on 01-26-2010 01:06 AM:

i'd make one with lassie, and another with flipper, and a third with mr. ed. then maybe one of them would be able to tell me why they missed the coon.

That's Funny; I don't care you you are!
