I am pretty sure nobody is jealous of me or the dog I am hunting, but he makes me happy most nights. I have hunted with a few dogs this year that I really liked. What I am jealous of is the dedication it takes to develop dogs that are great night in and night out. I no longer have the drive to hunt like I used to. I would regularly hunt all winter long no matter how cold or how unlikely it would be to get one treed. Now I am just as apt to hunt for a warm place to sit in front of the TV on those same nights.
As for dogs that I can say nothing bad about. Granted some dogs on this list are better than others, by my accounts and maybe some others, but when I hunted with them, I sure liked them.
Charlie Creek Edge.
Oak Ridge Stylish Thorn
Oak Ridge Clover Cubed
Twin Oaks Crosscut Bozo
Those dogs can all eat the food I am feeding.
Jealousy doesn't fuel me, I only want to do the best that I can, if I can win a cast, great, but being nasty to other hunters, causing trouble, being negative, just isn't my thing. I am sure I have screwed up and said some things that I am not proud of, but, I can't put the water back in the bottle. Have a great year in the hunts this year, whether they be competition or pleasure hunts.
Leave the jealousy at home.

Do you ever sit back and take a look at who we are. Lets say and this is probably to high a number, but lets say they are 300,000 coon hunters in the United States. Divide that by the 2009 population of 308,271,000 people and that gives us a percentage of being .0009731 of 1 percent of the population. Basically we are a nobody!. But the fact is in this .0009731 of a percent of the population of america, its our world, and its what we enjoy doing and what makes us happy. Its amazing that coon hunters get bent out of shape over who's woods someone is hunting in. I have permission where I hunt or who ever I am hunting with. If I run into someone that does not have permission in the woods I am hunting, it does not bother me, I could care less, its none of my business, they are plenty of other coons and hunting grounds. This is a game that I enjoy playing and doing. Jealousy runs rampant among coon hunters. Here is a good scenerio. I hear this one a bunch. "I am not going to that club cause so and so is there! Bull Butter, your not going because you know you can get beat by better dogs at that hunt. I have never in the 20 years of competition hunting has let anyone that I knew was going to be at a hunt, stop me from going if I knew I was packing enough dog power, I cannot comprehend in my mind not going to a hunt for fear of who was going to be there, but from what it sounds on these message boards, that is exactly what some are saying. Some coonhunters, lives breaths and dies to goto the next hunt, and what for, glory! Do you really think anybody cares other than yourself if you won first place at that hunt, or made your dog a GR NT CH, its no big deal, look at the money you wasted doing it. You do it for yourself and your own glory. I can care less what so and so is doing from this part of the state or that part of the state, I can care less if so and so bred 100 females at 500 dollars a pop, and ect... Don't get so wrapped up into this game that it makes you become jealous or envy of the next man and his dog, enjoy it as you go, make friends, enjoy camping and the trips to the hunts, hug that old hound of yours and rub its ears and tell em you love them, keep a great spirit with a fun loving aditude and as long as you keep it honest and straight, don't worry what they say about you, usually the ones that keeps it honest and straight are considered trouble makers anyways. Just laugh, smile and enjoy the ride.
jealousy in coon hunting ranks is almost as high as the lying scale in the white house. everyone wants the top dog, and when someone else is whipping them, instead of trying to man up and get better, they like to talk the negative trash. Sure, there are a lot of dogs that have bad traits, or at least traits i don't like, but then, they suit their their owner/handler, and they are winning, so why do we talk? Jealous. that is it...we can't beat them, so we try to talk bad about them, but does that help with the get beat part? I doubt it.

EVER DOG HAS IT"S DAY
EVER DOG HAS HIS DAY!!
Lot of people and young people have heard this. But, alot don't know the meaning of it. Well, just because your dog beats mine tonight. Does not mean it will do it tomorrow night or the next.
I have seen my dog blow others away night after night. But, then what happens? It comes back and bites you right in the butt! The dog that ever one has been blowing out od the woods or getting beat in night hunts or on the bench. Makes a big hit and beats me or someone else on the bench or in a night hunt comp. UKC or PKC. The dog starts coming on strong and taking ever thing it goes at. Tonight I may bet you some cash and win your cash! But, then again it is up to the dog.
Be it the dog has a bad night or the other dog has a great night! Evere dog has it's day!
So before you or me or any of us say something knocking another man's dog or hound.
Remember EVER DOG HAS IT'S DAY!!!
You or me may be beat. I rather be able to say ,"Say, I told you just give the dog or hound some time.
Their night will come!"Hope some of you young er and older man can now remember that as we like to say!

COON HUNTING IS THE MOST JEOLOUSE SPORT THERE IS
Human nature is human nature whether you are looking at our sport or any sport. If you look for the good you will see it. On the same token if all you look to see is bad that is all you will see.
I choose to look at the good.

check this out. the jealousy does'nt only involve around coondogs. there's guys here that get mad or jealous just because they hunt the same woods that you have been hunting when they were swinging on their mammy's skirt-tail but now they say it's their woods. as going as far as reporting you into the game warden, "imagine that"!!! that's really bad when a coon hunter turns another coon hunter in for the samething they're doing.... now that's jealousy, greety and real STUPID !!!

TREBERTA
I AGREE THAT IS NOT ALWAYS ON THE UP AND UP BUT WE KNOW THAT WHEN WE GET IN THE TRUCK AT THE HOUSE AND HEAD THAT WAY......LIKE YOU I WOULDNT BE HAPPY BUT I DONT THINK THAT IT HAPPENS AS OFTEN AS YOU SAY IT DOES DONT GET ME WRONG I HAVE SEEN IT BUT WHAT GOS AROUND COMES AROUND,THATS THE CHANCE WE TAKE WHEN WE ENTER UP........YOU DONT HAVE TO BE A HIRED GUN TO BE A CROOK......
P.S. WHAT IS YOUR REAL NAME......
Lets just face it.. Coon hunters don't have the best reputations perion inside the competition world or out. Are there good people ? Most definitley I seen that first hand last weekend but youre average cooner is a social misfit.
My name is Trevor Hack and I to am a social misfit according to alot of people
Maybe it's because they know I have coon dogs or maybe I come off as "cocky"
Or maybe it's because when someone tries to cheat me I hold them accountable and tell everyone ( I THINK WE HAVE A WINNER )
The only way to get rid of the cheats is to make them known.
I honestly think UKC doesn't want to do much about these crooks because that's money there loosing each week.
There isn't a registery out there that should be the police for each and every cast. The cast is responsible first and foremost, and the club is second in line.
In the 1980's I didn't like competition hunts at all. I felt the same way as many on here who have posted about cheats. By the 1990's I got interested in the hunts again. First off, let me be right up front, I am one of the worst handlers anyone can witness. The thing was I enjoy coon hunting and I was bound to make this competition thing work out.
First thing I do is carry the card every time if I can. That way if the cast is messed up, it is my fault as a weak judge. This tends to make one stronger very fast. Next, I was determined that I will not stoop to levels that I know reflect badly on me or our sport. Always be fair per the rules and be respectful and guess what will happen? You will start having better hunts.
Yes, I know I have seen it time and time again. Ole yes, you will run into a few fellas here and there, but the number of your better hunts will out number the bad.
So if ya don't like the hunts my advice is step up and take responsibility. If you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem.
