Thats news to me. So Is it just me or does that go against the wording of that rule I thought a dog must be struck to be considered trailing but okay. Next question is you have to turn the dogs to the trailing dog. Which way do you cast the dogs? LOL

On the other hand, if you train for this rule and have a dog that will ignored that other dog treed in there and go tree it's own, you could score alot more points with the new rule. But you have to train for the rule and they may be a concept that is over the head of some.

you do not have to train for it if y6ou get the right blood in your kennel, my female will not cover another dog if one covers her fine but she will not cover another, and from what i have seen in the last two years COMA and WIPEOUT dogs are the same way.

I will tell you right now that I have hunted with both coma and wipeout hounds and they covered other dogs also. This year too.
I diagree its not all in the blood, most train for it. Stand at that tree and switch them out of there.

Yes I think they do. Its much better payoff when you hunt them alone.

That is not a me too dog unless he backs the dog on the tree and there is no coon there or backs it before it checks to see if there is a coon there. Other wise it is a dog that honors another dog.
" HONOR" FUNNY WORD use to be something to be PROUD of.

Call whatever you want, most of the time that tree will be closed before the dog can cover which means the dog just wasted an opportunity. You might as well just lead it there, then don't risk getting scratched for a possum.

exactly, all of hunting was started out as fellowship
going out with your buddy now days all you read
is a split tree artist.i have always wonder why they
had to be split tree artist if they were fast enough
they could be dog A 1ST.

as long as all dogs holding strike are declaired treed you have the option to recast. if there is still a dog holding strike but not decalred treed, you got to recast

WVA, you are wrong. If two dogs are treed and one is out trailing you have an option. After all trees are scored, and one is still out, then and only then do you have no option. You have to cut. Read Allen's post above and i believe you will see the correct way.

I read it and it sounds like you have the option, to cut loose again. I don't read where Allen said you had to. I asked this same question above Allens post. I need to see the rule.

If a dog(s) are treed and a dog is loose, you have the option to recast or lead your dog. If all dogs are treed you must lead your dog and no dog can be recast. If no dog is treed, you MUST recast when the 8 is broke.

Jim Thank you. It had been explained to me a little different in the past.

Edited: Another thought It really irks me that I know the MOH that I was on a hunt with told me this, and a couple of us didn't turn back loose. I think I have seen the light- Well his dog couldn't run a track nor tree a coon anyway. If your not sure of all the rules they sure can get over on you sometimes. I am learning. Thanks again.

Jim explained it as well as it can be explained. And i commend you Todd on trying to learn the rules. Far the record, one can not learn, if one will not ask questions, and there are no stupid questions. You may encounter some stupid answers though. lol

LOL Your sure right on that. There's a few on here I trust enough to take there word. I have noticed a hudge difference in my handling techniques and casts are alot smother if one person knows the rules, and not to mention a lot more fun!!
