-- Dog on the clock???? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=305621)

Posted by justsandm on 10-13-2009 11:46 AM:

Jack,
Dale's a good guy and I respect him a lot for where he is, what he has accomplished, etc.

BUT that doesn't mean that because he did it that way, everybody has to.

He was the judge on that cast and that was his decision at that time, which is fine. But, that doesn't mean that is the only option at every hunt across the world.

It makes good sense to handle the dogs after dead tracks, but in this situation where does it say you have to?

Posted by thornie on 10-13-2009 11:47 AM:

Here's another question. Dog A crawls under a big multiflower patch and pushes rabbit out in front of the 3 other dogs. They run it over a bank and in hole. Does dog A get his strike points, if he didn't run majority of track, while trying to get out of multiflower patch.

Posted by justsandm on 10-13-2009 12:07 PM:

... the dog gets the strike points because the rabbit was saw and it holed.

The rule you are referring to (running majority of track) only applies to "speed and drive", or scoring a line. The dog must be struck in for the majority of that circle to be scored on speed and drive.

i still say leave them down
quote from justsand
If I'm the guy with the dog that just got minused on the track, I'm not really worried about my dog striking on that rabbit again. If he does, maybe he'll get it jumped this time. If he strikes again and doesn't produce again, he deserves to be minused again.

this is well put

Scott no offense but I dont see anyway you can continue time after you handle the dogs. To me once they are handled and recast their time would restart.. The key word to me is continuous...to handle the dog would interupt..
If I would judging I would ask the guy whose dog was struck do you want to handle or leave him down.. and go from there.

i would like to see a minus rule for dogs who get put on the clock...example: put them on the clock and say at 2 1/2 min. they are minused 50...at 5 they go to the truck...there is good luck and bad luck in every cast...we just have to roll with it...in some org. u pay for someones opinion while juging your dog...in other formats we try to follow the rules the best we can and hope eveyone is treated fairly and has fun...key word here is FUN!!!!

Thanks

Dog (A) on the five minute clock for not hunting
Dog (B) strikes rabbit and goes no where with it and gets minused.

AT this point in the cast if I understand your question correctly you have 4.5 minutes on Dog (A) for not hunting.

A: Wait for (30) seconds and then scratch the dog for not hunting!

I have never personally been in this situation becuase lets face it a two dog cast and then on top of that the obove senario occurs.(does not happen that often).

At the 2009 rules committee this senario was discussed and we (the committe) decided to clear up the grey areas. When the Rule updates go into affect on Jan 1st 2010 you will see that Rule (6b) has an addition to it.

Jed,

Are you all going to give us a idea of the changes before the first of the year or are you going to wait til Jan. 1. We saw that only one thing passed at the meeting but it is my understanding that there are some other things that will be changing just like rule 6b.

Bill

BILL

We will be putting the changes in the December issue of the magazines.

That is correct there will be some other changes as well and we will try to get them in there also.

dog A has only been on the clock for 3 minutes and thirty seconds....not the 4 minutes and thirty seconds like the guy stated who was not even there.

THANKS!!!!!!!!!

fasteddie

Key word there is (might) happen not likely.

Common sense must be applied!!!!

There are hundreds of "what-if" senario's out there but you have to remember that good-ol common sense will prevail in 99% of all situations.

Posted by fasteddie on 10-13-2009 08:49 PM:

In the rule book there is NO common sense RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by fasteddie on 10-13-2009 09:18 PM:

if i dont like the commin sense rule then ill deal with it on the spot with my commin sense i was tought growing up!!!!!!!! bare hands!!!!!!

fasteddie

You are right there is no common sense rule in the Rulebook however if no common sense was used at Field Trials or in judging hounds at Field Trials no one would do anything but argue.

Seams like a good guestion. What is the answer Jed ? I may lack common sence ,so I still am confused LOL. Do you pick up the dogs after the dead track and restart the clock or not. Seems like it is split on witch way to go.

Posted by on 10-13-2009 10:35 PM:

I have seen this happen on a cast and would like to know correct way to do this.

Posted by tjcrewse on 10-14-2009 01:20 AM:

Ok So in the Scenario of Dead track and One Dog is on the No hunting Clock..
beings that the majority Rules in Most of these Casts with a hunting Judge let the Cast Decide

Pick em up or leave em Down???
Vote on it!!!
Would this be RIGHT or WRONG?
In the Event of a Tie Vote the Dog that is on the Clock No Longer has a Say.
As far as the Common Sense goes Some folks Sense aint to Common!!!!

HELLO

IF CLOCK RUNS ON HOUND STRUCK OR HOUNDS TRACK IS DEAD AND THAT MAJORITY OF CAST? THE DOG GETS SAVED ON HIS NON HUNTING PART BECAUSE WHEN YOU ARE ORDERED 2 HANDEL UR HOUNDS THEY ARE HANDELED AND NOT HUNTING NO MORE AND HAVE 2 START ONE OVER, BUTT IF MAJORITY AGREES 2 LEAVE UM DOWN I SEE WHERE QUSTION IS EDDY? THATS A GOOD ONE

CSG

CSG, you don't have to vote on it. There is NO RULE that says you have to handle the hounds. Just leave them down and scratch that dog when his time expires.

Posted by hittle on 10-14-2009 11:56 PM:

rules

it dont matter what happens everyone reads rules diff. the other dog was on the clock for not hunting my dog is off hunting and strikes in while other dog on clock first. well my three minutes is up im eating my 100 points well the other dog is still on clock the judge says handle dogs i wanted to wait see if first dog is going to leave before its 5 min it didnt so it should be scratched i took my minus so the other should of been scratched it was on clock first so the dog that wasnt hunting won the hunt in the rules it says any continous 5 min dont stop the clock and move so it saves that dog well master hounds said judge called dead track so he gave win to dog that was over its 5 minutes it all happened within the same 5 minute so it can and will happen
