John, sounds good. Like I said before, I have seen some GREAT walker dogs. My buddies had a couple good ones about 9 or 10 years ago. Heavy lipper bred with a little finley river too. I loved them dogs. Havent seen a walker dog like em sense. Sorry, just tellin the truth. I would love to though. Me and pop are in the market and looking for a good dog to buy. We tried out a walker dog about a month or so ago. He was the slowest tracking dog I ever seen in my life. Coons are pretty thin around here where we hunt and a dog has to usually hunt pretty dang hard to find a track even if you got feeders much less if you dont. We carried him the same ole places we carry our ole mutts. Our dogs dont burn the woods up but we have seen some coons sometimes. The owner said we could keep him a month or so if we wanted to and try him out. I guess we turned the dog loose about 30 or 40 times. He would stick his nose flat on the ground and MOP the ground everywhere he went. He did show us 2 coons in that amount of time and hunting. No possoms. He would bark around inside of 4 or 5 acres for 30 or 45 minutes sometims. He would sometimes go a mile or two and take an hour to get there and then he would be running back and forth around in a briar patch or have his head stuck in a hole. To put it plainly he wanted to run everything but he couldnt run anything. Now granted, up there in Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Penn., where most of you guys live the dog may have looked just fine where theres a coon up just about every tree and a hot track every 50 yards. Owner said the dog had treed coons all season last year and done a fine job. He just lives about 2 or 3 hours from me and I dont think they have as many coons as I do!!!!! Anyway, he wanted $1,500 for the dog and he showed me 2 coons in 6 weeks. I guess we turned him loose like i said maybe 30 or 40 times. The very next night after we hauled him back to his owner I carried these two ole bluetick mutts out and I saw 2 coons. Aint bad considering it took him 6 weeks to do that. He usually had his head buried in hole digging or was running around a briar patch back and forth. I can see a dog needing to be broke from off game but in my opinion they should also tree some coons in between all that junk too!!!! Oh well, I know all walkers aint like him and I know theres some blueticks out there as slow and sorry as him. We still would like to buy a good dog one day. A deal like that leaves you kinda frustrated though. Thats a lot of time and trouble.
