The bears seem to be disapearing fast, the baits are realy slowing down. Its going to be a short season this year I'm afraid. The lack of natural food is causing them to den early. We were able to get another bear today. The dogs had to cold trail for over an hour before they jumped him.I started Gunner, Duke and Willie from the bait.Gunner and Duke got out ahead on the track and about an hour after they jumped it they ran it across the road about 150 yards ahead of us and into a bog.We drove down the road were they crossed hoping to get Bonnie and Clyde into them. While we were trying to get them out of the box,the bear poped out of the bog and back acoss the raod about 50 yards ahead of us.We ran down the road with Bonnie and Clyde and put them right on the track.Gunner came out of the bog right by us and trailed out behind them.I ended up grabing Duke because he got messed up for a few minutes in the bog and got behind. The other three dogs made a loop up onto the mountain and headed right back to the road were he had just crossed. We were waiting for him this time and the hunter was able to drop him right in the road.

The hunter and his bear.

WELL... Poor Bob guessed about the TOTAL weight of both for Hayden... I LAUGHED at the poor man... I KNEW he was a BIT over... BUT... I am on here all the time...he is NOT... so...

Good Bears and really love to see you guys do this as a family and keep the generations going in hunting. Such a loss to the USA to see our lands developed...animals losing habitat and hunting ruined...

Seeing bears getting closer and closer to us... I think it's sad. Of course Larry knows I'm terrified of bears to

Brian, Good to see you have your son hunting too...

Have a Good day, Heather

I got my last client of the season taken care of today. We had a great run.Gunner, Rooster ,Willie and Duke cold trailed for about an hour before they jumped it.We tried the same bear yesterday and they cold trailed 2 hours and came out to a road and could never find were the bear left the road.I knew the track was old because it was under about an inch of snow that we had gotten early in the evening.Today the bear never went more than a mile and a half from the bait in 5 hours of running. He just kept circling and back tracking all mourning.he wouldn't leave the thickets. It was a good test for the young dogs and they passed with flying colors. After about 2 hours Rooster got behind so we pulled him out and after about another hour Gunners sore feet, that have been plagueing him most of the season, got the best of him and he fell behind, so we pulled him out.The first chance we got we put Bonnie and Clyde in and they went to the front and Willie and Duke which had been running it for about 4 hours fell behind them. They went back and fourth and around and around for about another hour until the bear made a mistake and ran right back into Willie and Duke. All heck broke loose and the bear made a half mile dash with all four dogs hot on his trail.Duke,Bonnie and Clyde got a little ahead of Willie and we heard them catch the bear. They held him until Willie got there and then he treed. The hunters father got some pictures of him in the tree that I will post latter,Here are some pictures that I had on my camera of the dogs and the bear.

Rooster,Willie,Duke and Gunner.

Bonnie and Clyde.

Another good one

Congratulations!!! Sounds like some great dog work involved in the excitement!!! We have some more snow on the ground here, which makes it tough to stay mellow till lion season. A week ago we were in the mountains getting firewood and there was about 6 inches of snow. Came across a nice tom track......6 more weeks for us. A LONGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG 6 weeks. But we go to elk camp this weekend, so that will pasify us some!!!
Again, great job!! Love to hear you success stories and pictures.

I was able to get one more bear before the season closed, actauly on the last day.The guy that has been helping me all year,Branden, realy wanted to shoot one.I only had a couple of baits that were still getting hit. Most of the bears had already hibernated. We have been trying to get another run ever since we killed the last one.We have had a hard time because the bears have been hitting early in the evening and the rest of the night the racoons and coyotes have been all over the baits.Finaly on the last day the bear was in for the last time just before 2 O'clock in the morning. The bad news was that there was a coyote there the rest of the night, until a little after 4 O'clock. We thought about it for a few minutes and decided that it was worth a try, since it would be our last chance this year.I walked Gunner,Willie, Duke and Big Black up to the bait and let Gunner go.He went out about 250 yds up on the hill before he opened, which I thought was a good sign because if he was on the coyote track, he would of gone out barking more,Because it was fresh.I then turned in Willie and then the pups and they all went out on Gunners track. They went up over the hill and out of hearing so we had to drive around and by the time we got there they had the bear jumped and the pups were in the lead.I was hoping that they wouldn't catch him were they were because they were 2 miles from the nearest road up on a big mountain.About that time they turned and started back in the direction of the bait ,which was good news. They ran back above the bait and down the ridge and then turned and came down off the mountain and crossed the road ahead of us.(which they almost never do).Willie was about 600yds behind so we picked him up.The dogs then turned and came back towards the road. They crossed about a half mile down and Duke was ahead of every body so I put Willie back in with him and they ran about 400yds and treed.About that time Gunner and Big Black came back across the road and went in and started treeing with the other two.The race lasted about 2 hours and was a great end to a good season.

The last picture of the bear.

The last picture of the coyote.

Branden and his bear,Big Black,Duke,Gunner and Willie.
