A lot of the fencerows, creek brush patches, and other areas we have here in Central Illinois have both squirrel and rabbits in them. In ARHA when a beagle strikes a hot squirrel track, runs it 100 yards, and quits it, especially when the other dogs get in with them, they nearly always plus it. In UKC, lots of guys are claiming holes on the same tracks. I break my dogs off of squirrels, so they do not open on them. In ARHA, the other dogs get points which put my dogs behind. In UKC, the other dog's bogus strike points get circled instead of minussed, which would put my squirrel broke beagle ahead. It is very easy to break beagles off of squirrel, I am surprized more guys don't do it. But, I reckon the ARHA guys wouldn't want to break their dogs that way. I have Champion squirrel dogs, so I am very experianced with squirrel tracks and the difference between them and rabbit tracks.

Lakeland Kennels, stay at home with your prized water walking dogs. Seems that there isn't a format out there to suit you yet. We don't need anymore sore losers.

a true houndsman would respect any format of competition. most people will go with the format that helps them win or with the format that they are used to runin in. I have run littlepack for ten years I am lucky to have met a person that has run in ukc only.We now co own a dog that we run in littlepack.I have helped him with the rules and now he is a certified judge. So now he is helping me with the ukc rules and i am going to run in ukc and arha. Although we do note the differences about the two including our likes and our dislikes we have been able to enjoy both. There is nothing wrong with debating the subject, but not to the point where u turn people away from one or the other.there is alot of variables that constitutes being a true houndsman and this is one.
