i like a dog that opens instantly when it hits a track. keeps it mouth shut on hot tracks and runs to catch. on colder tracks i like them to give plenty of mouth and keep me heading in the right direction and listening to them unfold the track. once its lined out and warming up, they get a little quieter and pick up the pace.

i have a young dog thats pretty tight on the ground...she can and will tree real live coon in the nastiest weather winter can throw at her. my male dog is more open than her but acts totaly different on cold tracks vs. hot tracks. he loves a good long feeder track and bawls the whole way. on hot, pop up tracks, he'll let me kow hes on one and then the next bark might be a locate....

p.s. one of the fastest, nasty track working dogs ive ever hunted with was a DEAD SILENT walker dog. super fast and super accurite in any weather on any track. never said one word until he located and treed....

trailing

iv seen some very peculiar things that dogs did trailing coons, or what ever , dogs ran a coon one morning under a culvert at daylight , and I watched about six hounds line the trail out one right behind the other, like a train rolling down a track on a branch iv never seen that happen since but I know it happened more times I just dint see it. big white male made the pickup and everyone else followed right in his rear end , if he had of stumbled they would have ran over him lol iv seen other times dogs run jumped out coons strait away, one little spotted female never took a back seat when you jumped coons out she had a fine little clear chop mouth you could have picked out of a hundred, man I wish I had just one of those six hounds today
I like hounds that have good clear mouths that call all comers to join in on the fun, im not the jealous type, I always want yours to get some too, its never fun to see folks get embarrassed unless there running there mouth too much lol
