-- NITECH wins---what do you think? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=2792)
Let the chips fall
The cuurent system is tough. It was never meant to be an easy task to make grand. I can't say that I like the way it is set up but................ I would make it tougher if anything. Granted, it is hard to swallow when you get beat by another cast by 12 1/2 points or whatever. That is the luck of the draw ladies and gentlemen.
If you choose to let a dog have credit towards another win, that is making it easier for the degree to be accomplished. I don't think that is the direction we need to go in this case. From reading the board, everyone seems to think the dogs are much better now days as opposed to 15 years ago, so I say let's make it tougher. Let the rules also get tougher as the dogs do!

Keep your viewpoint sharp on what truly matters............... and leave everything else a blur!
Why not just count casts won with plus points fom the first time you take your open dog to it's first nite hunt till you and that dog have attained X number of cast wins. The dog would attain titles along the way: nite ch 10 cast wins, gr nite ch 30 cast wins (including the 10 for nite ch) super duper ultimate grand nite expealadocious champ 100 cast wins. Ignore titles when drawing casts and you wouldn't have the problem of a nite champ being cast alone.
Or it could be a cumlitive count of final score on score card. Have you ever gone back to the club house with 6 or 700 points on the score card but not the cast win and fella from another cast won his with 25+ which was good enough for a second place? The idea of cumlative points would never work because some states you are lucky to score 2 coons in 2 hours and some states you can score 10 coons in 2 hours but it was a nice thought.
Could also have a special ultimate super duper title for for a dog that attains 100 cast wins all while being handled by its owner
Imagine the bragging rights on that 8 year old dog out back that has 300 cast wins or whatever. Could be telling the fellas out in the woods ..... heck I don't know what title he/she has but has got 211 cast wins
CHANGE TO GRANDNITE
ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS SEND THE NITE CH. OUT FOR 1HR THEN BRING ALL THE CAST WINNING DOGS BACK TO DRAW OUT ONCE MORE TO HUNT THE OTHRER HR. THEN YOU HAVE YOUR HUNT WINNER LET THE RULES STATE THAT YOU HAVE TO HAVE PLUS POINTS IN EACH CAST TO WIN THE HUNT. FOR YOUR LARGER HUNTS YOU MAY HAVE TO TWEEK THE RULES A BIT MORE BY ADDING A WIN FOR EVERY 25 DOGS NO MATTER HOW MANY NT CH ARE ENTERED
I think they should make one small change to make a Grand Nite. They should keep it the same with 5 wins and then add 6th to where the dog has to hunt by himself for at least 1 hour and come in with plus points. With a non-hunting judge of course. That way when you went to a small hunt and there was just the one Nite Ch. he could hunt for this portion of his degree. That way it wouldnt be much harder but it would make him show you a coon by himself. I have known many dogs that were Nt. Ch. winners that didnt make a first tree all night.
Give nite champion
cast winners a win for every cast won...............but require at least 10 cast wins to finish to grand nite............that would sure show that your hound could consistently win his cast against other nite champions..................you wouldn't "luck into" 10 or 12 cast wins!!
Ryan,
When Sammy goes yard, and the Cubs win it all, the cold Budweiser will be raining down from the heavens above for Harry will be partying down !! All it would take is for one of those teams to win 5 in a row and I think it would be all over.
Rick

Oh my goodness, it took 15 years of talking about it to make a change?
It is a shame. Lets just hope they change the way rules are voted on soon..

Me personally I would love to see it change. I know a lot of guys that had won 15+ntch cast and dog still wasn’t a grand night due to getting back to the club house and someone coming in with 25 points more than what you had it gets agrivating when ya think of all them money you spend and win that much and don’t get nothing back , that why I had quit hunting ukc for a long time I had a dog with 19 ntch plus point cast wins all with a years time and only had 2 wins toward grand . Myself along with a lot of other people dont hunt Ukc much as some of the other kennel clubs.

These changes will level the playing field, there won't be anymore honeyhole advantages. The ones complaining the most about the new changes most likely had their honeyhole to hunt. ALL you can ever do is beat your cast with plus points, you should not have to worry about the other casts scores. Some have mentioned the $KCs using the cast win method over high score, this makes every cast equal. UKC has finally got it right ! Hope you will hunt more UKC hunts now. Dave
