Well I already have a plott because thats what I hunt on coon. Shes due to have pups at the end of June so I think we might make some coyote dogs

No, not mine. But I know a few people that have them. They use a couple of Walkers and a couple of Plotts and they also have two hounds that came from a Plott female bred to a Fox Hound. The two of them will run them down to the end of the earth, the others take them out with brute force. They hunt them year round in different states.

I went coyote hunting over the weekend and had a hair raising experience.

I was set up on the edge of a field, sitting in some tall grass. I was using a dying cottontail mouth call. I had called for 10 or 15 minutes with no luck. Usually after that amount of time you might as well go reset somewhere else. I decided to increase my volume and try and bring one from a distance. Just as I finished my first session of this exaggerated calling I heard something behind me. I turned around to see to 'yotes about 15 feet behind me, RUNNING at me. They were as surprised to see me as I was to see them. I stood up as they were hitting the brakes. I use a bolt action .17 HMR and must have hit the bolt while standing up. One of them only ran about 10 feet and then stopped and looked back at me. I put the crosshairs between it's eyes but the shot didn't go off due to the bolt coming up. By the time I realized the problem both 'yotes were running off through the field. I fired two shots but missed both times.

Talk about exciting! I was almost dinner.

Reimbursement

Sorry for your loss of the dogs - that is horrible. I didn't know that was as common as I'm hearing it might be. We have a den near our house and I'll be sure to keep from running the pups in that direction! Will also get the guys to come out and do some calling at our place, thin them out a little, though that will be short-term I'm thinking.

I would be interested to know about the reimbursement if you ever get an answer. I'm assuming that it is your state tax dollars that pay folks for reimbursements of animal losses.

I know here in Missouri the legislature want the conservation department to start paying for deer damage to vehicles that hit deer. Sounds bogus to me. If it's legal to kill the deer, then I'm not sure what else the conservation folks could do about it other than allow a longer season. You can already shoot like 6-7 deer a year.

Keep us informed on what happens.

im really sorry to hear about the dogs and the pics just made it worse it made me sick to see such pretty dogs ripped to pieces. i am definately borrowing a friends 30-06 and shooting all that i can at my cousins farm where i run occasionally.

coyote trapping

sorry to hear about your dogs.Its always heartbreaking to lose a dog whether its a veteran hunter or a promising prospect. my heart goes out to you.I prefer shooting coyotes but i have heard of hanging a LARGE treble shark hook from a tree limb with a decent size length of rope. bait it with raw meat. hang it low enough for the coyote to jump up and chomp down on it but not so low that it can touch the ground once it takes the bait. never tried it but heard it works. good luck with whatever method you use.
