A good ol friend of mine, the Late Bobby Craig told many stories to myself about alot of these dogs.

Bobby hunted most every night with Dave and they were good friends back in the 70's before he moved to Kansas. Bobby hunted with II, III, McCOYS MICH BLUE REBEL, the orginal Hammer, and many many others. Out of all these dogs Bobby always said that McCOYS MICH BLUE REBEL was by far and away the best dog and reproducer of all them but gave all that credit to II for sireing Rebel. Bobby said that II was the dog that got the Bluedogs head off the ground and but the drive and wind ability into the bluedogs.

While at A.O. last month i sat with Dave Dean for a few minutes and discussed this very issue. Dave said Bobby was always really high on Rebel and knew that Bobby thought a lot of that dog as did he. Dave also started talking about his days with Bob in MI. and related to Bobby as being one of the few people in MI that would tell someone exactlly what he was thinking no mater who they were and the toughtest man he ever shook hands with {Bobby was was a heck of a boxer they say for those that may remember him}.

For the last few years i have spent a few nights talking Bluedogs with Bob before he passed. After coming to Kansas Bobby started hunting Walkers dogs but was still Blue at heart i think. Matter of fact right before he passed i gave him a pup out of Rattler X Gabby {which is some of the closest Hammer II dogs left} and he was on cloud nine. you would have thought i gave him a thousand dollars when i hauled him down to the house to pick up that pup {Tony Foley has her now by the way}. Bob told more Blue dog stories about him and Dave in those 45 minutes than i can ever remember, he was wound up when he looked at that pups 7 gen papers. I only wish I would have had a tape recorder to remember more but what i do remember the most is most of Bobs stories always credit McCOYS MICH BLUE REBEL as being the best dog he ever hunted with!!!!!!!!!

Jay

I did , Rock was a nice dog. As far as I know there is nothing left
that would show Slim in probably 4 generations. Slim was the BEST dog in standing water I ever saw. He could go through water like he had an Evinrude strapped to him. He had it all
except for a BIG mouth. You had no problem hearing him but he
had more of a tenor mouth but it was clear as bell.

thanks, rick. i wish i could remember more of the old dogs that i got to hunt with( better at remembering the people) but my first fall round- up was '73, first winter classic was'89, first purina race was'95, so i'm sure there were probably a few 'famous' blue dogs in there somewhere.
