I don't dismiss anything, there are enough ridges and hollows for a cat to live around here. There is definitely a food source, the deer are all over. There have been alleged sightings in the past not far from here, but I would have to say a bobcat if I had to bet a paycheck. If it is a big cat I would like to get it in a tree and take pictures because no one would believe me.

Yes there is...... very very rare, google it. There are links that say they are real and some say they dont. But i know some agents that would say yes..its like an albino animal, is it common??? No its not but it is possible and CAN happen. Squirrels are gray or brown or red, BUT a solid white and a solid BLACK sub spiecies came off of that right? So give me an reasonable answer on why its not possible to have a BLACK mountian lion!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!THANK YOU

A friend of mine was hunting one night in eastern NC. I think somewhere around Jackson. He saw a very large black cat. He called me and told me about it and I informed him that they used to be abundant in NC and were almost killed into extinction. The NC DNR has admitted that they are there and I do believe that they call them Panthers, but not sure. This all happened about 6 months ago.

A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America for an amount of 'up to and including my life.'
That is Honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.
I know for an absolute positive fact that there are a couple of big cats in Tennessee, regular Cougars regular color.
My dogs treed one of the kittens, momma wasn't too pleased and whooped em, like to have killed one of them. My vet knows me really well and when I told him what it was that got them he laughed at me, until I took him to the vet. Then he agreed that with the bite it was impossible for it to be a bobcat, much too large and had to be a big cat.
She stayed in the area that one year, but moved on after that. She stayed close to a friend of mine's farm, got a couple of calves that year. I saw her, him his dad and mom all saw her. One of the neighbors got her on an infra red camera at night. Didn't run into her after that one year, I only seen her once, I think in that entire year, even with them knowing she was there, she was only seen a total of 3 times (once eating on one of the calves) and caught on the infra red once. Had to be two of them cause she had littleuns LOL.
Right after I moved to Johnson City a new subdivision was complaining about a big cat. TWRA denied it until they got photos and confirmed tracks. Then they said it was "some rich person in the Smokey's pet that was released in the wild". That's what they said on the news anyway after the photos were released and they were very adimant that NO you couldn't kill it if you seen it even though it was supposedly now a "pet" gone wild LOL.
So that's 3 that I know of not countin the littleuns. There are plenty of places in Tennessee that are wild and wolley enough to hold a couple of big cats and them not be seen much. Where I used to live is one of them.
The one here in Johnson City wasn't so lucky, it got caught with pics and tracks and was around that new subdivision. It disappeared. No I have no clue if it just left or someone made it disappear, but it got gone not long after it made the Channel 11 News.
I remember they used to tell those people that seen bears back where I am from that they were crazy (I never seen one but others did). TWRA said no, couldn't be there, locals would say "more people would have seen them if they were here" etc. Then one day someone showed them they were there. 1 dead bear 30-06, left on the side of a main highway.
TWRA was awful pissed that it got shot for something that wasn't supposed to be there.

The video can be seen on the KDKA Channel 2 out of Pittsburgh. If you search I believe it is under "Panther seen in McConnel's Mill State Park". Arnold Julian took the video of it while trying to pattern a big buck that had made it through the last 3 seasons. I am very familiar with the very spot it was taken. It is on the edge of one of the most rugged areas in the state.

There are NO DOCUMENTED CASES OF A BLACK or MELANISTIC COLOR PHASE MOUNTAIN LION. EVER
There are no authenticated cases of truly melanistic cougars. None have ever been photographed or shot in the wild and none have been bred.
It is nothing more than a old wives tale.
OR
Someone had a illegal pet such as a "Jaguar", and let it escape. And of that was the case, it wouldn't be hard to find, considering it's dependence on humans for food.
Feel free to provide us with any DOCUMENTED PROOF of a black mountain lion. (not to be confused with a black jaguar or leopard, which do exist)
While deer hunting in Green county, IN in the early 90s I spotted a Mt Lion, no doubt about it. I wondered why the deer in the area had scattered and the cat was why. I quit deer hunting that place for the year and once the cat moved on the deer came back.
A few years later we found several dead calves in Pickett county, TN in a few months time while coonin. Found cat tracks but I didnt have any sightings. I havent seen any evidence since the 90s. Cats are roamers.

Here is what the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services says ab out "Black Mountain Lions" in the United States.
"There is no species of "black panther." The large black cats seen in zoos or used by media outlets are usually either the black (or melanistic) phase of jaguars or leopards. Some species of wild felines, especially those that are spotted as adults (including bobcats) have melanistic or black color phases. This color phase is unusual. However, there has never been a black or melanistic panther, cougar, or mountain lion documented in the wild or in captivity."
