-- E Collars have you ever tried one on? (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=271241)

The thing I like about e-collars is that the dog associates the negative effect with what they are doing right then. For example, they run a deer, they get shocked, they associate the smell of deer with the shock and don't want to chase the smell of deer anymore. Using a switch, on the other hand isn't as immediate. For example, they run a deer, they hear you yelling, they see you running after them, they may come to you or not, then when you finally catch them, you beat the crap out of them. So then do they associate the punishment with the smell of deer, or with you yelling, or with you running after them, or what?

But I do agree, use it on low levels and work up until you get their attention. A tone is usually all it takes anymore to get their attention and hardly ever more than level 2 out of 6 on the tritronics. I have never fried my dogs, because I have put it on my hand and hit the button and I do respect it and you don't need the high levels to get the results you want. It is an easy way to screw up a dog if not used correctly, but used right it is a great tool.

I wouldn't have used it on my dog if i hadn't used it on myself first, you want to get your point across right NOW, they work great, just don't over do it, rarely have to use it any more

Yes it is a training tool and a good one if used properly. Much better than a limb! I can tell from reading the threads on the subject on this board not many know how to use them. I have tested one on myself and it's no more than a tickle on the low setting so you are not hurting the dog with it if used that way. Just an atttention getter. No you don't get it out of the box when you get it and go straight to the woods and turn loose on a deer and burn him up with it. Learn how to use it properly at home and prepare your dog for it before you go hunting with it.

DAN ----between 5-6 week she should be showing if she is going to have 4 or more -----always keep a eye on her at due date --I have seen them only have one ----didn't think she had any in her ---or with one pup it might be too big to get out --call your vet then in a hurry ---you will tell if she is laboring --good luck with they--- should be stem winders

I never hardly turn a dog out with a e-collar. However before I go shocking I walk in and see what is going on. I have seen more dogs ruined with beating, not to say I have not switched a couple of hounds. Trick is not to use the collar or the switch or boot out of anger.

E collars are a great tool, having said that, I hardly ever use one.

A lot of the time I want the dog to know its me doing the punishing, but there are times when the e-collar cant be beat.

The smart ones know you make it bite! I don't know if mine still works. Haven't used it in a long time. I did charge it up not long ago and it blinks ok.

Try the collar on myself!! Are ya'll crazy? I'm smart enough to know it will hurt.

I don't try my dogs food before I feed it.
I don't sniff them in the butt if they do me.
I don't eat a turd to see how it tastes if I see them do it.

And I sure AIN'T gonna do something to myself that I know will hurt for no good reason.

Oh yeah, do you use the switch on yourself first each time to make sure this one don't hurt too bad?
