Justin,

The DNA markers used in canine parentage are not good predictors of genetic relatedness either.

Their one and only function is parentage.

The fast ones catch alot of coon on the ground or put a lot of coons up where coons don't normally climb, small bushes, ect. The rest just sound fast..............................

I hear ya' ... but , if you can put together patterns that develop and in turn make predictions that come true .. it's a sign even if you can't go on record and explain it .

Or ... with enough info you can say that there is no pattern.

As it stands ... there is not enough info or data to say ... for sure ... on either side .

There's probably not two walkers in the entire breed that aren't
related one way or another. I'm not saying this good or bad but
it seems to help the breed to some extent.

IF ALL BREEDERS OF ALL BREEDS THOUGHT THIS WAY THERE WOULD BE ALOT MORE COONDOGS OUT THERE!!!!!!!!!JMO

LINE BREEDING AND INBREEDING WORKS GREAT IF YOUR WORKING WITH COONDOGS FROM THE GET GO!!!! AND THATS A FACT! IVE SEEN IT FIRST HAND!!!!

True linebreeding has been one of the best methods of breeding for centuries ... it's crazy to think that there are still folks letting dogs hang up that are so uneducated about animal husbandry and breeding .

Most folks think that inbreeding is linebreeding and can't see a linebred pedigree from an inbred one .... or see closebred dogs and you can't give them a pup .

The old timers that founded our strains of working dogs and horses were alot sharper than we think we are ... the more advanced we get , the less educated the common is ... we got stuff so easy that we stopped thinking for ourselves.

Fastest track dog...

It seems we have a bunch of super fast walker dogs out there. Which in my opinion strengthens my idea that your better bred dogs are line bred dogs. Like I said you'd be hard pressed to find
two walker dogs out there that aren't related someway or another.

Jeff you're joking right?

Please tell me you're joking. I'm not trying to step on any toes
but I've never seen a plott dog that could do anything
right or should I say two things right. O.k. if you say he's a
fast track dog I believe you. I don't see a thing mentioned
about his treeing ability!? The vast majority of plotts I've seen are fast game runners and couldn't get treed if they were
forced. You know as well as I do that fast game runners
usually end up treeing in a hole or coming back off of the
track. Does the majority of his tracks finish with a tree or a
hole? Does he run a lot of tracks red hot and then for no apparent reason shut up and come back to you? Like I said
I'm not trying to step on any toes just trying to figure out if
the plott is a track and tree dog.

Tomparsons,

I knew a shortlegged cowhocked female plott that was a top coon dog that was amazingly fast track dog. Between her size and cow hocked legs one would have thought she would break down fast during the night. Nope, she was as fast at the end of the night as the beginning.

Her name was Buckeye Annie. Look in some old Prohounds and you can see how well she won.

Plott female

I hunted with a three legged dog named Zip sometime ago. She
was a good dog very independent that's the way I like them.
