I have had two dogs castrated. Both were littermates that were ill on the tree.
It cured their "ill-nature", but both dogs lost most of their booming mouths within a year of them being castrated.

Thats what I did last night to him put that baby on 7 as soon as he started to mount the other dog his head about came thru the top of the box. I thought about sticking him in a kennel with another male or female and working on him with the shocker. I'm gonna call my Vet tomorrow and see what she thinks about it. [/Q UOTE] IF I HAD A FEMALE VET. SHE BETTER BE A COONHUNTER!

Steve,
Ole papa John had a large write up in the Cooner just recently about this topic....it was a good read, if you get the chance have a look....As for Joe he has been around dogs and hunting for many years....everything Joe speaks of is from expierence and he will give it to you as honest as can be whether you agree or not is your choice, personally, I have known Joe for some time now and he is a very knowledgable houndsmen.
"Bottom line, Joe is just a wanna be coon hunter....he buys all these books and reads about the worlds greatest stud and just speaks bits and pieces of what he has gathered from other hunters...A Tim Ball wanna be is really all I see....For instance, Joe told me the best way to get young dogs started is to get them treeing on a large fence post with turtles laying on the top....yep you heard me right TURTLES!!! I couldnt believe it until he actually showed me he training ways with a big post and a couple Redear Sliders haha!! He also told me the way to keep coon around in your woods is to take Tootsie roll wrappers and tie them on the ends of low hanging branches with a trail of the actually tootsie roll on the ground!! Couldnt believe it until I saw 25 empty tootsie roll boxes in one of his hunting spots!!! IT WORKS"

thats my sense of it too.
I will add that I have two males, one castrated one not, and they are allowed to run loose in a fenced yard. They hump each other all the time in play and I don't worry about it. They worked out which is dominant long ago, and both will put up with the other doing it in play. Both are fine in most hunting situations, but will occasionally try to play with a dog they are turned out with if they don't think the situation shows promise of a track. This does cause trouble sometimes, especially the ore dominant of the two--the denutted one.
The neutered one was not neutered until he was two. He is beautiful, but one of his testicles never came down and I didn't want to breed him, so both were removed. He is still a gritty big game dog--can tree a bear and hold it single handed. He is fairly dominant even with un-neutered dogs, but not ill. I think his behavior patterns were formed before he was neutered. The only difference I notice is that he smells better to me and is now greedier about food. He isn't ill with the other male at all, but will gulp down his food to get more than his share of the other dog's if I feed them together.

my male drawn then castrated i feel it will stop the tuff guy atitude and improve his hunting aswell. I had a bear dog a few years ago he was real aggresive with other males we had his balls cut off and man with in a couple months he was a totally different dog... With the tecnoligy we have today with semen storage and AI i'm suprised more people dont get there males fixed.

my male isnt
agressive he just has habbits i don't care for such as pissing on everything sniffing females all the time. He display dominate behavior wich is different than aggresive behavior. Every litter is born with a doninate male and a dominate female you cant breed it out of them its decided at birth its in there DNA to be dominate or passive and i'm having him drawn because he is a hell of a dog and needs to have pups out of him someday. If you degenerate hillbillies knew how to comprehend what you read i never said he was ill i talked about a mean bear dog that i had. so good day
