Think about all the coon scent around a feeder. Every thing close to the feeder will smell of coon. Did you ever notice that many dogs don't strike until they have the track lined out and it is often 50 or more feet from the feeder?

A very good point was the question of how long the coon had been up the tree. It could have been 12, 18, or more hours.

How does a sow lose her scent? lol

Posted by Steve Raleigh on 03-26-2009 10:26 PM:

How/why do bucks lose their racks and grow new ones?? why are fawns born with spots and lose them? why are blueticks called blueticks when in fact they are not blue?? (Mother nature bud). Hormones in a coon are the reason sows lose/have very very little scent when pregnant/first couple weeks when their offspring are born. Its a survival instinct.

sow coon also pull and scratch hair off there sides and belly to make a nest. hair that would normally throw alot of scent..most sows will climb a different tree and cross over to the den to get with the kits..

to the rest of ya's, quit making excuses for why your dogs can't tree and have the meat. i mean come on a coon with no scent at all, thats a good one. i've heard it all now.

to the gentlemen that hunts the island full of coons, sometimes its hard for a dog to walk in on that many tracks with that many coons in different trees. i bet that is hard on a dog, unless you have a tree happy feller.

By the way you talk about them you have the best pack of blues in Oklahoma, all I ever hear you do is blow, blow, blow, about how smart you and them are. Too bad you didnt make it to the all blue hunt, then and there youre dog power wouldve been evaulated by real live conhunters not the computer coalition, oh well maybe next year??
