linebreeding

I have inbred and linebred for several years with good resilts.
Make your cross and see what you get.if it works do it again
if it don't then don't do it again.
One of my best dogs was from a sire bred to daughter then this female was bred to one of her own sons the results from this were some of my best.

Breeding

The first thing you have got to know is whats behind your hounds.
I'm not talking about names, I'm talking about mouth, and ability, looks, and temperment ( every move they make and how they think) you need to breed from the same line, hounds that have those traits you are trying to enhance.
If you breed a female to a male of the same bloodline they need to have the same good traits as the dog in their bloodline that you are trying to enhance.
If the female is like her dams side of the family and the male is like his other side you are not helping anything.
Breed to like individals that you are wanting to improve and line breeding will work.
breeding father to daughter, grandfather to granddaughter is line breeding,,, breeding brother, sister, uncle to niece is inbreeding.
I had all my years of college years with one of the best Agri. teachers there was., He was a genius in genetic breeding and produced one of the most successful Holstien herds in the world at College of the Ozarks in Branson, Mo.
He and I put together and a cross that produced twin heifers "Nell" and "Bell" in 37 shows they were GR. Ch. or Reserve Ch. across from each other in every show.
Line breeding has worked for us with old " Table Rock Hawk " and "Gold creek Mundo" breeding, and it did for John Wade and the "Comanche" line. Now we are putting the two together.
We like what we are doing with these pups, we are getting big mouths, that that tree young AND HAVE A COON. We will let you all be the judge of their looks.

I think to be successful at line breeding or inbreeding you have to know personally the dogs and relatives in at least the last 6 generations. Not many people have the time or resources to be able to see, hunt and take care of that many dogs. I've seen where we brought something into our bloodline and had good results from a cross and then linebred that and then on down the road say "where did that trait come from". May have been good or may have been bad and then you have to make adjustments. After seeing it done for 40 years it's still a crapshoot to some extent even when you know the dogs.

thanks guys

I sure appreciate all the knowledge given to this post. When I posted this thread I didnt know what kind of response to expect just because it seems morally wrong. I guess over the next 6 months I will look at all options on the linebreeding and figure out which stud will better my hounds and whoever else that would end up with 1 of these pups. STAR you and I would get along great, I can remember being in high school and chasing women, my dads favorite saying was "boy keep your stick on the ice." the next question would be. Say this is a well known stud or studs that Im interested in doing the cross with, is this something they would go for or would it just piss people off. I know the only way to find out is to ask but just curious what you people thought.. thanks again.. kutter

Yes!!

You are right, these young dogs we have now we go back knowing hunting and showing these dogs back throught at least 6 gen. and in most lines of their ped. we go 7 or8 gen. back.
Yes if you have success in your line breeding program you have to bring back the ones that are a genetic type like your desired hound.
That don't mean the others won't make good hounds but you have to keep the ones with your origenal traits.
