My buddy shot one last week through the back theigh the dang thing came down the tree and jumped into the middle of his dogs. Now that was a good fight!
My opinion let em kill the coon every time you hunt them. A coon can take a .22 cal in the rear and still have a 30-50 min fight in him. It'll make your dogs want the coon more and you will enjoy watching your dogs at work!

Hunting is one of those pleasures that you won't understand if you have to have it explained, which is good because folks who enjoy it can't fully explain why. -Ron Spomer
IF YOU GUYS JUST GET YOURSELVES SOME OF THEM DOGS THAT TREE TREE'S ALL NIGHT. THIS WAY YOU WONT HAVE TO FEEL BAD KILLING THE COONS AND YOU SAVE ALOT OF BULLETS LOL.

coons
I only shoot out one on occassion, as long as I see him he'll be there to run another night. Get to hear those mountains ring, except maybe this time Ol MR. Coon will throw another trick or two. I don't know of anybody around here hide hunting anymore. There are a couple that have to kill everything shooting it out to dogs 8+ yrs. old and then leave em lay. That pisses me off!!

hmmm we got to teach this dude not beat him down its evident he's new to this
i
dont kill them all not even in season but when i put one out i hope it comes out full of live to fight the dogs.good for pups
when i shoot a coon out i try to kill it dead that way my dogs don't get any wounds and can not be hunted for awhile i just like to let my dogs know that they did a good job and it shows when you walk out to them ...... they don't crotch down and act all scared when you get close and they listen alot better for me just the way i do things it may not be for everyone but it works well for me !!
WHEN I WAS YOUNGER I WOULD TRY TO KNOCK COONS OUT TO SEE A FIGHT BUT NOT ANY MORE. I ONLY KILL COONS THAT MY DOGS REALLY HAVE TO WORK HARD TO TREE. I HATE TO SEE THEM SUFFER ANY MORE. I DONT EVEN LIKE TO KILL COONS. LEFT ONE SITTIN UP TONIGHT. HECK MOST DOGS DONT EVEN HAVE TO HAVE COONS KNOCKED OUT TO THEM THEY ALREADY GOT TO MUCH TREE IN THEM.
I lost one 2 yrs. ago to coondog paralsys but I always try to bring one down dead. I went to a 22 mag. it really does the job.
"You hunting with chihuahuas or what?"
Coon ankle biting Chihuahuas...LOL!
I
shoot all coons out dead. I have trained them to strike, track, trail, and tree. I'll do the killing. They do enough for me by just getting the coon up. I reweard them by letting them chew em every now and then. I knew a fella that never shot em except when he brought a youngster along like myself when i was little to let the kids have fun but other then that he wouldn't shot em. And he treed coons all the time it didnt hurt his dogs preformance. I think if you let em chew on less and not shot every da*n coon out that ya tree it actually makes them want em more because they don't get to taste the blood as much. Gives them drive and hunting desire to hunt out and tree the next one even more. And then you will have more the next time you go out to run.

If my hound
strikes a real hot track and dont take it but a min or so tree it I'll just let the coon go so hopfully I can run him another night and he will throw a couple more tricks out on my dogs to make them better hounds. My dog hasnt proven much to me when she strikes a hot track and doesnt take it long to tree. Any decent hound can run a hot track. Sure there fun as heck but that didnt test the skill of my hound. Now if its in the winter time my hound works a cold track to a warm track and its an ole boar coon and he takes my gyp on a long run and she has done her part in putting the coon up for me then yes I'll reward her for her deed.
Sometimes less is more!
