Dillon,
Ferret or sugar glider. Both can be bought for around $100-$150. Both are somewhat easily cared for, easily found.
I had a ferret for awhile. Not a biter but sometimes would puppy nip. She was an escape artist and I couldn't keep her in her cage. She basically had free reign of the place. I'd find her "treasures" hidden here and there. She was a **** thief. She'd steal all sorts of the stuff and hide it under the recliner, in dresser doors and everywhere you wouldn't look to find something.
I didn't care for the odor. Even descented with regular bathing they still have a musky smell.
There are also lots of rescues where you might find one, but I'm sure if they'd adopt one out to an inexperienced person. The country has tons of unwanted exotic type critters because of people who think "it would be neat" and buy on an impulse.
Dogs are way easier to take care of.
