Sorry Joe,

I got to agree with the man. You all up there have all those thousands of acres of Corn and bean planted Coon Heaven. Down here if you going to get in you better have some and also to try and keep the dogs safe from the highways. I haven't had anything in mine in 8 months but that is about to change once the season goes out. But I have been treeing coons without the buckets this year. Not wanting to argue but state a fact. No need for a bucket when you have a butt load of coons sitting up around a corn field in a little patch of woods right beside it. Down here it is not like that at least where I live.

The major difference is when they are exposed to several "thousand acres" of corn, every dog that enters in the hunt has the same ability to be turned loose in several thousand acres of corn.

It's about a level playing field. There is no doubt that luck plays a role in guide selection...despite if you are hunting over buckets or "wild" coon. And you have lot's of coon in your woods...but I drive to SETW Days, and draw out a guide who has killed every coon he's treed in the past three years, and hasn't actually seen a coon in his woods for the past four months !

At least up here, with "thousands of acres of corn" a dog can go somewhere and have a pretty good chance of treeing a coon.....

Bottom line, luck of the draw in guides plays a bigger part in that area of the country than here...and my luck sucks!

Not pointing at anyone but me.....I'll say it again...my luck sucks.

I see what you are saying now. You are right. That is why I like to guide when I can. It is the luck of the draw.

Luck of the Draw

It don't matter if your in Ohio or North Carolina. Anyone would want to get a good guide. A hot track is a hot track, if you don't have the speed to get first tree or the hunt to get deep and by itself than you might want to consider looking at another dog. I believe the new format will help a lot with the scores because a double cast win with the highest score will be the winner. You want see as many withdrawing because they don't have a great score that first night because they will be after that cast win and hope to double up with a great score saturday night. Now Saturday night, well they might get a little wild. lol. Overall, I think the new format will be a success for the future.

Tim!

I agree, the most consistant dog should win. Any one can get lucky on one night. It takes a better dog to do it two nights. I have been at this game along time and have won down there several times. It makes me feel better that I can know I am going in coon!

Yeah but what Joe said is correct. If you didn't have a guide that was going to try and put you in coon things would be a little different wouldn't they?? Because when you draw out and you see one of those guys you know that is going to be put in coon and you draw out with a guy that don't have the coon as the guy you know then you know you are beat don' t matter if you win you cast both nights and he does too with 1200 and you with 225 so you see what Oak Ridge is saying. You can win you cast both night big deal you will put up a few Purina Pts but that will be about it because Ole Hot Feeder Bucket Joe just put up over a thousand. Am I making myself clear here Dalton??? LOL!!!

good hunting

I've hunted this hunt I think four years and only one time and we still score a coon. Other than that, I think every cast I've been on score at least 3 singles or better. I know I've been lucky as far as guides and give a double cast win with 500 plus each night and I'll take it. I'm going to say it will take a combine score between 1000 to 1400 plus. But, they will award High Scoring Male and Female. I still like the format their trying and a COON DOG should be able to score on at least one coon in any place I've ever hunted up their. Might half to walk, but they can find the bacon. To win this hunt, you need a COON DOG, a great guide at least one night, and a WHOLE LOT OF LUCK. lol. I want be hunting anyways, I will be kicked back taking it easy. I tried going tonight and barley made it back to the truck. I got a little young fire ball that will do all the hard work. Ashley, Sissy's half brother GEE TEE won the Ky Akc st ch. That is some good blood line. I can't wait to get my female off of her and X, if she make's it I will breed her back to your young dog if possible and than back on Gee Tee. I'm also going to try make Lady Gr.Nt.Ch after she has the pups. I have my female off of Rape Ape bred to X right now, if I have any luck with them and think you might want a female give me a call and I will get you hooked up. Are you going to hunt Thursday night too. Tim

Ashley

Hit the woods again last night. Got a late start though. Almost 9:00 when we turned loose the first time. Again no feeder bucket here. Slammed one in 5 minutes! Man these coons sure are moving "GOOD"! Made one more drop and pulled a slick. Reworked a couple of old feeder buckets after that and called it a night. Going again tonight to see if these old potlickers can find the "meat" somewhere!

Joe

Never hunted buckets and don't like to turn out on cut corn fields, can start a pup out the wrong way, if you know what I am saying.
We hardly hunted around crops when we had the river to stay on. Alot of that land is gone to developers now. When I used to guide and judge, I took dogs where I knew coon were but also other stuff. I only had 1 cast that all dogs made it past the first turn out. Never had "buddies" on these casts. Knew people or of them but was more interested in dog's ability. I won't guide but have a great place to hunt. Come on down but they better be real broke dogs. Too many bear in the area, not hard to get out of pocket. Also if you want to check weather in the area go to wsoc channel 9 charlotte and it is pretty close.

Now for all of you lead foot drivers, I live 7 minutes from the fairgrounds and let me warn you, the HP know that this is coming and will be looking for you. They just started a speeding crackdown and an aggressive driving crackdown and in a stretch of 8 miles in 2 days we counted 22 pull overs.

You all are just so funny! The problem is that me and Terry are always right. You all should know that a Dalton has so much more brain power we tend to look down on the less than average, you two should understand this. You, well this conversation is going way above your understanding. LOL!
