I sold my beep-beep unit and I absolutely love my gps unit. I live in the rolling hills of Missouri and I get a 2 or 3 mile range. I'm costantly watching my dogs on the unit so that I can move closer if needed. There is no reason for my dogs to be further than 2-3 miles anyway.

well you guys go ahead and keep those freakin beep beeps and the rest of us will use this so called POS because from what this shows you is sometimes they are not nearly as far but on those crisp calm nights they are way farther then you can tell as far as range i guess where i live if my dog don't tree a coon in a mile or at worst two miles he is gonna get an education real quick cuz they ain't huntin if they are goin that far

Hey Scott, due to un unfortunate circumstance, I had a DC30 collar submerged in about 5 feet of very cold water for almost 48 hrs. When I got it back, I turned it on it worked perfectly, got it home charged it, it was fine, no problems.

I sold mine and go strictly with the Garmin now. I have not regretted it at all. It's nice to see some fellas getting 8 miles and such. I am happy that if my dog somehow gets 1.5 or more miles away, I can know right where he is. By the way he only gets that far away if I have to get in the truck and drive around a large section.

Got my truck antenna on today and got over 3 miles with full bars. This is a 200% improvement from the unit antenna. Beep Beep going up for sale. Anyone looking for a QT 6000 with 6 collars.

I agree, i think these guys must be running dogs that are tracking cars, not coons or even deer. Heck deer will circle back before they run a mile and come right back where they started from. Most loud dogs can't be heard throught the woods nearly as far as most people think. I've got what would be considered a loud female and when I can barely hear her treeing and start walking that way and my buddy says, "man she's in the next county." I rarely have to walk 1/4 mile to be getting pretty close to her. I don't have the garmin yet but when I get one I think it'll confirm that the dogs aren't as far away as a lot of guys would think they are.
It's just that you guys are out of shape and a 1/4 mile walk feels like a half marathon to you!! LOL!

You are exactly right... Once you do have the Garmin you learn real quick what 400 yards. and 800 yards is. And you know if you should drive around the section or do the 400 yd. or>> 1/4 mile walk.....

We've had ours since December. I have not hunted with a single person who was not impressed by it. It is an excellent tool to see how my dogs hunt with each other and with other dogs. The facts you gain from them (how your dog hunts) are very useful. I would not go back to the beep, beep.

With an ATS 155 Frequency Yagi, I got 9.02 miles today. Lost signal at about 9.33 miles. All you need is an adapter to make it work!!!

your dogs seriously have to go two miles to just Find a coon how long does it take em to get that far? if you want you can move to iowa we got way more coon then that and we got more then enough room for another hunter ha ha i don't think i would hunt if the action was that slow

you all are kidding right? first off i regularly strike boars in deep and run them a mile this time of year which puts them at a mile and a half or deeper having a dog treed at a mile or farther is not uncommon with broke dogs around here...........and i have owned SEVERAL hounds that have been heard treed or trailing at way over a mile its reasonalby flat around here but ill not own a hound with a weak mouth period.......im not alone in this boat i can name a few guys around here that will agree with me completely and their names will be recognized ...........to the fellow that thinks a dog has to be trashing to be over a mile from you let me explain i DO NOT own dogs that will come back and only drop one hound at a time most drops they are SUPPOSED to go hunting. Treeing a coon is their job- getting them off the tree is mine.

yep, your less than 30 miles from Montgomery City and an ole boar during the rutt will sure make a fella think they're running a deer or yote..

its amazing to see how your dogs hunting or not, the best tool ever for training a young dog..IMHO

Run yotes today and the dogs did just over 15 miles at an average of 5.6 mph in deep snow, the truck antenna never lost the signal.
Having issues with the one collar dropping off from the unit. Garmin told me today to do a factory reset and re-enter the collar also to run my collars in a range of 1 to 10 or 10 to 20 to get the best with multiple collars.

It dont happen every time but it does happen here during the winter on state land..I've saw them go 5 or 6 miles by gps and not strike a coon.We have to keep feeders filled up on private land to keep coon around!! North ga and south ga is totally different..We treed 4 there the other night in about 45min..Now that was fun...Dont get me wrong..I dont plan on ever turning a dog loose again without a garmin..Its just mine nor anybody elses around these parts gets the kinda range alot of these folks on here talk about..I also still run a marshall as backup but have not needed it in over a year.

Do a google search for a BNC to SMA Adapter. Check different sites as they seem to be a big price difference for some reason between sites.

Gotta chime in with GA DAWG on this one. I have hunted his country, mine is just a little further north in the mountains of Southern/Middle Tn.

It's rough, crawling on hands and knees rough, straight up and down in some places. It don't happen every time, but it is pretty common to have the dogs out 45 minutes or an hour before they even strike anything. It's not at all uncommon for them to be a mile or two from where they were turned out by the time they tree.

Now a mile or two isn't far in flat ground, but in the mountains it takes a tracker that will track 4-8 miles to pick up 1-2 miles in the mountains.

I know people from my old area that use the Garmin and they love it, sold their old trackers. Not saying it's bad, just saying I can understand the hesitance due to the range issue. If you hunt in rough country you gotta have some range on your tracker.

Oh and my brothers old Zipper dog had a funny mouth that sounded like a hoot owl but we have heard him treed documented with GPS at 2.2 miles (only dog we could hear but we still heard him). Funny he had two other dogs that were louder than him close up, but for some reason his voice carried much farther than I ever thought it would. My female was alot louder than him, but you could hear him alot further than her. He had a funny pitch and it just carried forever. If you ever "barely heard" him you best be drivin cause it's gonna be a long walk LOL.

since the secret is out on the Yagi

heres how you do it

take the belt clip that came with your reciever
and mount it to the yagi and add a dab of velcro to the battery door on the garmin and the antenna
ofcourse where you mount it depends on the length of coax you use

ive found that between the first and second element is the best place and useing a small diameter coax is best

if you use a stiff coax the repeated opening of the antenna
will eventually brake your SMA connector on the garmin

here is a web site with the coax you will need
they have the coax that works from SMA to BNC so you dont have to use the adapter

but if you need an adapter they have them to.
