I've had the pleasure to hunt with a lot of different dogs over the course of the past several years. Some of the "big name" stud dogs....and some unknown greats as well.

The overall best coon treeing dog that I ever hunted with was a male that I bought when he was five years old. I bought Screamer out of the hills of eastern Tennessee. Screamer had "issues"...probably the most ill natured, mean, fighting dog I've ever seen. Fact is, when I bought him, they were using a lasso to catch him at the bottom of the tree. Yep, he'd eat you up! Screamer and I soon came to an agreement, I would not whip him, and he would not eat me up. Every person that had owned Screamer up until I got him had tried to shock, whip, and bully the mean out of him, but they only made it worse.

He died here on my place, at the ripe old age of 13 years old. To this very day, he is my measuring stick of how dogs run track, locate coon, and of accuracy. In 8 years of hunting that dog, I don't remember him ever "missing" or treeing slick. I could turn him loose in the middle of the day, and he would locate a coon to tree...had more heart and determination that a whole kennel full of dogs...

Rest in peace old friend....

The best hound I ever hunted was a Walker called Magic. He was out of the older moon bloodlines. He could literally blow the tops out of trees. I kept him and hunted him for a buddy of mine. Magic, was one of the best out there until a car ended it all.

Guy I hunted with had a little pleasure dog he called joe he was a coon dog. Hunted close but always put it on the wood when other dogs would pass them and get deep. He ran nothing off and wouldnt mess with no possum he was all coon. Even in the mountains of eastern ky he always seemed to find a coon close. He was a fine hound till the day he died. went hunting 2 nights before he died and treed 4 and was in the doghouse dead 2 days later. Wish I had a couple like him.
