Russ

---Love this thread! Man, what some GOOD lookin' hounds, along with GREAT hounds all rolled into one. Patch is, no doubt, LOADED! How prowd you must be to see the work you and others have accomplished through the years, and as well you should be. The future is lookin' up for this strain of hounds.
---I noticed that ol' Gr Nt Ch Wisky River Bl Molly, ( Lumber's mother) and Renae's Nt Ch Ever Ready Bl Mountain Dew,( Bud's grandmother), are litter mates. If you would ever cross Kandy with what you have there, that would sure bring in some "up close" old stuff and should intensify it as well. Never know what the possabilities may be.
---Glad to here Kandy is commin' around. They are using a couple of littermates to her on bear down here and word is that they are super bear dogs, that can rig a bear with and ahead of the old dogs and get the job done with no quit. Endurance is a quality we could all use a little more of.
---Good luck and keep on what your doing. The bluetick breed can only get better. Also, I have a pic of Shelton Morris' O'l Boomer on my web site if some one can figure out how to get it on here. I havn't gotten that far with my comp yet!

"PUPPY'S & COUCH'S"

Ron, Thank you ! I guess we are kinda proud of "OUR" hound's like everybody is or should be of their own regardless of what other's may think. It has been a collective journey of the road well traveled & will continue to be by those with the common goal in mind.

You are number "UNO" on the list for a "Kandy" & "Patch" pup when it happen's. I don't forget thing's like that generally!!

"IF" & "When" I have some all blue puppy's born here again I am gonna be flat beside myself because I know in my heart what genetic's they are gonna be drawin strongly toward's.

Wendell brought "Molly" out & bred her to "Toad" twice. I had "Lumber" from the first litter & a dog I called "Blump" from the second that I sold in Canada to Dave.........AHH crap I can't remember his last name but he renamed him "Bud". He finished him to a Nite time champion.

"Blump" & an all blue pup I had I called "Dent" out of "Toad" & a "Sizemore's Scout" female came to "Lumber" one night huntin on the farm when he got treed. My dad was along just listenin in the truck when they came smokin thru the hay feild on their way in. They got in their & commenced to letin'er happen so I told my dad I need to get in there for the pup's.

Not to far in they where & as I closed the gap I could tell that "Dent" was off along the fence on the other side. I guess I assumed he couldn't get over till I went to help him & found him glued on a tree 30 yards from "Lumber". I fuzzed him up & snapped my only lead on him & headed to the main tree so I thought. After bustin through the rather ripe & ready to eat raspberry tangle I found "Blump" on a tree ten yards the other side of "Lumber" !

We had busted into a litter or two of belly fillin kit's & their was coon above all three, in between & around them. Needless to say I was a lil beside myself goin between pup's & worry'n 'bout them movin off their chosin nostril fillin location's. I unsnapped "Dent" & stood among'um grinnin like only a coonhunter that appreciate's the natural ability born within a hound as baby's can.

I picked one coon in the middle & knocked it out. At the tender age of 3 1/2 months I witnessed the the flowing of genetic natural ability surface.

Not long after that Joe Etringer,Todd Ackerman & maybe someone else came to "Bludawg Draw". I was tellin them about that pair of pup's. I didn't have to hear but I could tell there was a "?" mark in Joe. They was sleepin in a pup pile in the garage so I woke'um up & hissed them up above the house. Within a minute or two they was treed & blowin it down on a cedar.

We stood there a bit & Joe said if they've got a coon I'll climb it & shake it out. "YEP",Joe smelled like cedar when it was over & was made a beleiver!!

"Dent" went to Tennessee & I apolagize but just can't recall the man's name that bought him. He entered him in a hunt when he was pretty young & had a dominate performance that had him a 1st place won. The last turn out he doubled back on a coon that crossed the road & got himself killed.

Then there where three female's out of "Lumber's" first three litter's sired................"Story for another day"!

"Sizemore's Scout" was another back in the day that I admired & have no problem seein more of him added in.

Lookin back I can't even begin to recall all the lil pup's that thought they where coondawg's but when a simple thing like bringing up "Molly" jars sumthin loose it's amazing the reflection I get.

I had a hurd of them outa "Spanky" & different female's. Not to be left out is the progency of "Luke" as well.

That's groovy the old ad on "Boomer" & thank's BCD for bein electronically blessed to get it on. I know I got some of those myself buried in the old wooden chest mostly full of coonhuntin mag's. Need to dig into them one of these day's.

I am done typed out, cross eyed & my head is in spin down mode so I gotta get away from this thing before the pup's layin on the porch get a warm meal..........

"Bum" is hoverin around me as if to say," Don't you think it's time to hit the couch ?"

"YEP Bum", "You are rite!"

"Alway's lookin after me ain't ya?"

"YEP"

There ya go V. Dave Locke & Jack Duncan. Binder was the first one Jack had outa "Toad". Can't remember what female he was out of though. I think he needed a win or two to be GrNt when he lost him ?

"Dent" was out of the female by Platteville out of "Scout" or real close to him anyway's.

Thank's for helpin me out.................."AGAIN"!

Mercy I have no idea anymore. That female was a sister to "Kate" out of a different litter. I wanna say Jerry sumthin ? Could be wrong & sure wouldn't be the first or last time for sure.

"Binder",Yeah that was the only time I seen him after Jack got him. Wanna say at Van Wert maybe?? As close to "Toad" as any I recall seein outa him.

Was just tellin my good freind Roger Hall about gettin a pop at the golf course that night & the ringin fillin the valley from the ever famous,"JUST ONE MORE QUICK DUMP" thing.

Ya know,it took a while but I think I finally realized them hound's understood & over heard us way way to often....LOL!!

I bet if I was to get to rootin around in the old breif case that I toted before the invention of easy entry cards I would come across it.

"IF" I could find that....LOL!!

Did it start with an "M" maybe? When I usta work in Dubuque a lot I tried on several occassion's to see if I could find his place. Reckon I was close or maybe drove rite by it but ...........You know, slippage thing!

BCD & RUSS

---BCD, don't know how you do that with the pics but your purty handy to have around. Thank you very much! I have had that picture of ol' Boomer sense I owned my Nt Ch Moore's Simpson Creek Blue back in the early 70s. Blue was by Boomer and Hanlon's Belle. Belle's grandsire was Ch Nt Ch Hill's Arkansas Blue and her grandmother was the great Sebastian's Blue Penny. Those are a few names that I wish we could use a little more in our breeding programs today but unfortunatly the past is just that and we need to look forward. Any how, thank's Heather.
---Russ, thanks for the up date on Molly. Wasn't sure just how that went, but I have it now. Your right about ol' Scout. I believe he made a bigger impact on our breed than a lot of people realize. There were some good ones from the Scout and Sprengs Lady cross as well. Lady being a full sister to Boomer. Oh, the good ol days!
Thanks for the spot on the Kandy X Patch cross, should be a good one.

Ron...

...You are Very Welcome! How do I do it? LOL.. too many hours in my days... so I sit here at the computer and doing pix was one thing I was DETERMINED to master! I was obsessed.... That was how I was when I worked... a crazy woman! I still have little fits and bursts where I do that physically and BOY do I pay for it...

I love to hear about the old hounds and know that you all are working on mixing some of this stuff back together and bringing it back up to the surface.

Good luck! Heather

"FLASHIN BACK"

Ron, Ya jarred loose another cross from the past sorta. The "Lady" & "Scout" cross is one that I vaguely can recall but I remember it as being influential. Seem's like that is back in my collection of paper's but I need to do a lil diggin to find out for sure ? I think I need to get me one them goin back the furthest pedigree's on "Patch" to have a full spectrum look see.

Some of this is causin some minor memory bank drawin that I would like to understand again so I may just have to start digging thru all this stuff I got collected up. Refresher kinda course if'n you will.

Troy, Got ya in my note pad & thank's for the interest. Like I have stated in the past I'm rather fond of the "Boomer" blood as well as the coloring that come's via them. I have made a half brother/sister cross twice on "Toad" back when hoping to get another all blue pup & it never happened. We bred our Dual Gr "Dottie" to "Spanky" once & had one all blue pup in that litter which unfortunately died. That was the last of it's kind born here.

Every litter we raise I keep thinkin that there is gonna be one pop up but no matter how many time's I stack it in it hasn't happened. Guess there must be some truth to having one parent of that coloring in order to get pup's of the same ?

A real nice guy from Alabama I think sent two all blue female's up to breed to "Toad". They where heavily bred on the double "O Grant" side. He got 23 pup's out of the two & not a single all blue one. Caused a lil head scratchin & felt it kinda discredited the one parent thing when we had both that way.

Still a lot to be learned without a doubt. I've alway's said I was a student & that will never change.

"THE BUM"

"Patch's" sire "GrCh Russ' Treein Blue Bum" is an '09 performance sire. He has a 1st & a second in the hunt's with hopeful plan's to finish him to Dual Grand this year depending on the opportunity he get's to go to town so to speak. The hound's are part of our live's but I can promise you they are not the most important.

He can & will speak for himself to any that want to see him go at our discretion.

Don't forget where he came from. "Oppy" is his sire & Mitch Mueller was responsable for making the cross. His mother is a littermate to the one & only "Shockey".

Lota branch's that have & will develop from the tree.

"YEP"

That's him. Found it one of my old keepin track of the dog's device's this mornin while I was bein trampled by the hurd of hounddawg's I let in from outside & the one's that I let out every mornin from inside.

Can only handle all that ruckus for 'bout a half hour though...LOL!!

I thought this was a very nice picture of you, your son and the Bum had to post it. He is one of the nicest looking and put together hounds that I have seen and I love his color and the way he is ticked. It's easy to see that you spend a lot of time with your hounds, they are very well mannered and mind the best.

I truly enjoyed my visit with you and your family and you made me fill like family for that I thank you. Also thanks for the wealth of Bluetick education I got. I'm looking forward to my next visit and hopefully see the Bum, and Patch go.

Take care my friend stay in touch.

P.S. I brought this post over from the the Treein' Blue Crew post on the main board. Hope you don't mind.

"PRICELESS STUFF"

Roger, thank's for puttin that picture on here. It was educational & a respected visit by all account's. Lookin forward to turnin some hound's loose with ya & just maybe tree a coon or two!

Appreciate the comment's about our beloved hound's. Some may say I spend to much time with them but when all ya have is time they are a prescious source of passing said time. Without them to keep me focused in a posative direction I can't imagine how thing's would have been for me personally the past three year's & into the future.

The yougster's in the hound world are my main focus especially now. Nothing like gettin mauled by happy to see ya pup's of various size's "&" color's. Sure, they snag my sweat tite's & try pullin my short's off during the summer but they sure give me a lot of reason to laugh & grin.

I've never treed so many coon with hound's under 7 month's old as I have in the past three year's within 400 yards of the house & hope to continue doing. The time thing is responsable for that more than ever & if I can go to them I do. If I can't it's some great listenin from the porch.

Properly cared for & respected dog's don't care who you are or if your a lil off as long as your there & givin them the time & acknowledgement they deserve & feed off of.

Kinda like true unconditional freind's. As I have said in the past, I am a richer man because of them & you.

Priceless stuff.................

"HUNTIN"

Ben,myself & the old man made a turn out last night & "Bum" did a fine job of gettin outa the pocket & gettin a track rollin. Unfortunately it ended up in a downed hollow tree but "Bum", "Sas" & "Patch" where just a givin'er.

We had to stop after that the due to the crystalized snow havin them all bleedin around their nail's.

Ben & I scaled the mountain & swam thru the deep snow while the old man kept the Dodge company! At least it was warm when we got back there sweatin like hog's competen over fresh slop in july!!

Bum sure is a nice looking hound! I do like a dark bluetick but I favor the heavy ticking, like Bum. My Annie is colored alot like him.

Russ hows the weather there now. Its so cold here its not funny!

Very very sick of this stuff. At times I scratch my head and say, why do I live in Iowa? Good folks, and hunting I guess for most parts!

Not 100% sure but i believe Gr Nt Ch Morris' Blue River Buddy was off of the Sizemore Scout X Spreng's Lady cross. It's in Buds 6 gen papers but I've missplaced them. "Go Figure." Dave Darby ended up with Buddy. I remember back in 1981, I travled to Daves house to breed a Hammer V female to Dave's Gr Nt Ch Blue River Buck and Buddy was there at that time. I'm sure he could set us strait on that cross and it's impact. Floyd Sprengs would definatly know. He owned Lady. Oh well, thought this might juke your memory cause mine is so bad I can't even find Bud's 6 gen ped. Just passin' the time and thinkin' of old times.

"BLAST FROM THE PAST"

Ron, I'm pretty sure you are correct on "Buddy's" parentage. I had intention's & had talked to Dave about breeding "Kate" to him but unfortunately her untimely death didn't allow that to happen. After winning Autumn Oak's with her I was aproached by everybody that had a hound with jewelry about crossin her on their hound as you can imagine..... Just gettin out of Oak Harbor that fine sunday morning 25 1/2 year's ago was sumthin.

Felt like a rock star with all the gatherin & hand shakin's from our fellow houndsmen & women. Good thing I had my freshly appointed body guard Allen Hallada (all 140 lbs)with me for protection but the poparotsie' which where thick as hair on a dawg's behind.

"Just a taste of what Brittany has to go thru!!"

Was out to Dave's twice,Once to breed "Shawn" like Perry has showed above to create "Boy" & other's. Next trip was to take Dave out a pup with my sidekick's at the time of Wes Blue & Allen Hallada as well.

We stopped at the cabin & hunted with "Hammer VIII & Hammer IX". Wasn't allowed to turn our hound's loose as much as we wanted to & was kinda bewilder that we couldn't. We just had "Kate" & another young female. A hunt to remember for sure!!

right dog wrong pic. The pic you talk about I dont think I have but that one was taken just a short time after getting boy from you. Its a big old tree over in Larry Platners brother in laws just up the hill from Gr Nt CH Platners Blue Mash's resting place. If ya look real close Boy has a bad tear along his sheath. OUCH, didnt seem like much slowed him down.

Sure did enjoy that old dog. Spent lots of nights with him and Mash chasing these eastern iowa coon. The blood of that old dog still flows through most everything on the place. I still remember seeing him for the first time at AO. I was looking at a little black bitch tied right across from that ugly little knock kneed blue dog and he kept pawing at the back of My leg. I walked away to think about the black dog and when I cam back she was sold and Boy just kept on trying to get My attention. Tracked you down and as they say the rest is history. I wound up with a pretty good dog and a **** good friend outa the deal. THANKS.

"YOUNG DAWG'S & WORLD CHAMPION'S"

"YEP", Perry I do recall that night in the famed Rush Creek bottom's. Wasn't Marty with us that night as well? Treed up by the corner not far from the bridge I think?

"Abby", "Spanky" & "Weasel" hunt........... That was a great showing of young dog ability that night huntin in the cherry orchert's. Like you said,They was split 'bout every drop & seen a butt load of coon over them hound's.

The most memorable instance I can pull up from that hunt was drivin down the road & hearin "Spanky" give out a bark or two in the box a half mile or so from where we turned loose. We aimed & fired them on a lane towards the timber,"I think", And "Spanky" took a 90 degree right turn & smoked back down along the road & slammed a tree rite where he had sounded off in the box!

He had that coon treed before we even turned loose. I wish some of these "NAH SAYER'S" woulda had the opportunity to see him go instead of goin off the info passed along by those that got a waxin put on them by him or got their info from said waxee's. Acused of being silent when in reality most where gettin to see a genuine "Layup" artist & didn't even know it & probably still don't.

I could list several in the pedigree at the begining of this thread that where candidate's to have their picture show up in the dictionary of hound's under the wording "LAYUP DOG'S" from before him to the present.

Alway's amazed by the in depth knowledge of some with "0" first hand experience especially in regard's to the one & only "ACHA WORLD CHAMPION GrNtCh Coz' Sparetime Spanky" !!

"We was there,many many time's !!" !
