Did you fed the Hi protein?
I had always fed a hi protein feed and had judged feed quality on the protein content. Not a smart approach I know.

Got talked into the 24/20 Ultra and the dogs showed a marked improvement in appearance within a week.

There is nothing down here. Diamond and Enhance are the only thing worth feeding down here. No body sales anything else except some local junk.

Posted by wayne f on 01-16-2009 11:59 PM:

protein

protein in dog food should come from a meat source as dogs are meat eaters not grain eaters now purina dog chow is not a meat based dog food as are the better purina feeds,
what you have to remember is a lower price grain based food most times is not cheaper as the amount needed to keep a dog in good condition is a lot more expensive in the long run, feed a good meat based dog food and you can feed a lot less and get better results. this is due to the fact dogs by nature are meat eaters corn especialy runs through a dog without much benifit, while meat is digested leaving much less waste
the first 3 ingredients in dog food is whats important the rest is all filler

wayne is correct

try to get something meat based. if the first ingrediant on the bag says whole ground corn, just run!!! try rex 27-15 its pretty good feed, and they make tops 27-15, so i would expect it was good too. its the best bang for the buck. call specialty feeds in tennessee and talk to the guys. hey they drove all the way down here to oklahoma and met with me about their feed. i use it and my dogs love it, look good, and perform well on it.

Science Diet is by far the best dog food.

Purina-hi-pro

i havent ever been impressed with purina hi-pro, i used it for a short time,,,but just for an experiment for all those who feed,,, take a cup of water and a handfull of the hi-pro and put it in the water,, let it sit a couple minutes and see all the hair and crud that rises to the top,,,,,just shows you its all nasty by-product,,,i'm guessing alot of the other purina feeds are the same way

danial i have tryed ultra high stanards . and PURNA IS A WAY BETTER FOOD. BAck in the day purina wasnt worth feed but now i think it is one of the best on the market. altra and high stanards are the same food. it does make your dog look good but the results in the wood dont compare to PURINA.

Worked for a vet for two years and had a lot of interaction with very qualified people (trained professionally in pet nutrition and medication) to determine which food is the best and they all said that Science Diet is the most digestible and effecient dog food made. I have fed every kind and can say that it is the best. I have dogs on Pro Plan right now because I won 10 bags of it at a hunt and have fed it in the past but the dogs I like the most eat Science Diet and it is night and day difference. I have pics to prove it. Pro Plan is better than most anything but Science Diet. HiPro is horrible blend of dog food though. Terrible stool and dogs coat look awful on it.

I have to say that i would not feed Purina Dog chow or Hi-Pro to the catfish in my pond in the back pasture. Although, Purina Pro Plan is the best dog food on the market, I just cannot afford it.

I am feeding Hi-Standard 26-18 and I cannot find another dog food with quality and price to match this dog food. I have concrete runs and clean up is a breeze, great stamina and energy and their coats are glossy---all that i need in a dog food.

Also, I know the owner of this company and Hi-Standard and Ultra are not the same dog food. Believe me , far from it.

always fed purina and always will. now we have used kibbles and bits b4. it is pretty good. i like the HI-PRO even though it does cost a lot. seems to really keep the dogs fattened up well. but for the most part we use Dog Chow. if u get it at Tractor Supply rather than WALMART, it is actually cheaper, and u can sometimes manage to find the 50 lb Bags. but that may just be the one that is in Weston, WV but idk. if i were to switch, i would probably go with kibbles and bits, idk what the price is though. i hear Red Flannel is pretty good.

Ultra and Hi-Standard are not the same feed. The guy I was buying ultra from stopped selling it for a while so I tried the Hi-Standard and had to feed about 50% more for the same result. Purina Hi-Pro is also not as good, as I have feed tons of both. The dogs have done much better on ultra than The Hi-Pro (loose stool and need to feed more) if you dont think so I can show you a stack of win slips!!

I disagree, ultra is a lower grade of feed, 50 percent more, come on. I have fed them both, Hi-Standard is much better for the money.
