Maybe its cuz the new stock has lost something ??

I for one love the old Stock and the older the better.. I will try and do all I can to rebuild a "Goose Creek Track" or "Diamond Jim"

They were great cold nosed hounds that could do it all ..

Looks Conformation and GO .. Shame he Died so young..

Kinda hard to do that with the "breed" your using.

The reason I hunt this bloodlines is a quote an old friend gave me,"Your either making dust or your eating it."

In order to build something new, in order for it to hold up you need to build on a solid foundation.
There is plenty of "new blood" built on solid foundation but there is way too much using blueprints without ever considering the foundation.
Too much new blood is a product of breeding on paper.
I'm sure this happened to some extent in the "old days" but to me the difference is not as nearly as many of these paper crosses were made simply because people didn't have the resources to go breed to the "hot thing". They bred to coondogs within driving distance, within earshot of what people were saying about those hounds. Not taking time off work driving across the country to breed to the big thing.
And when folks acquired pups off that latest and greatest studs and if they didn't pan out they buried them. They didn't peddle them off or breed them to some other paper stud trying to recoop they're investment.

My opinion is finding a strain that suits you and line breed it. New or old that is the way you get concistancy. Sometimes an outcross is made and it makes you a little nervous to see what happens because you are dilluting the blood.

Most people do not do this. They breed their good female to a hot stud and you cannot get concistancy doing this. The results are going to be all over the place.

The other problem we have is "puppy factories". Where people will take a dog that has won a big hunt and buy a bunch of titled females or in alot of cases just "good blooded females" just to sell puppies. And they do sell alot of puppies.

IF YOU DO YOUR HOMEWORK AND STUDY AND HUNT WITH ANCESTORS AND KNOW WHAT THEY HAVE REPRODUCED THEN YOU CAN USE NEW BLOOD. BUT REMEMBER TO CULL THE JUNK DONT PASS IT ON & IT WILL HAPPEN IN THE BEST REPRODUCERS. DONT JUST BREED OLD HANDY SALLEY TO WHAT SOMEONE ELSE HAS TOLD YOU WAS HOT AND COULD TREE A COON ON A FEEDER BUCKET AND YOU COULD SELL THE PUPS TO SOME ONE WHO DOES NOT KNOW BETTER!!! IF YOU DONT WANT TO HUNT EM DONT DO IT!!

Nathen Edds sure put his mark on the Yadkin river blood, and from my point of interest, the Champ branch of the Yadkin River.

the web is a nice tool to use to find out more about dogs that is a fact. i like the word of mouth the best untill here lately. i keep hereing about this dog that is a hell of a coon dog i know he is i have been with him many times and seen him tree coon after coon do it right but every one say's he is ill eat a dog up darn near kill a dog but i never saw a cross bark out of the dog.

i am to the point i dont care any more . the first big thing was an add in the a/c now it is the web . we all say numbers dont lie but do we really know how many of the ones that where breed but not comp hunted. if there was a way to know what the reg coon hunter had tyed up at home whould the numbers be so high or low.??
when a guy gets a nice young dog and wins a few big hunts we say he aint this or that till we see what his pups do. some bash him untill his off spring is doing something then we back track on words said or we run to one of his off spring. if the old blood was so great why did we cross out of it?? and can you ever move forward with out adding something diff.
