They all seem to have the same mouth. Put four Joker dogs in the same cast and you would have one huge calling cluster****!

I have hunted with alot of Joker pups even owned a couple. Logged quite a few miles behind Cube. That's one of the nicest young hounds I have seen anywhere in the country.

Joker throws a no nonsense kind of pup. No trash issues, they all seem to have a distinct mouth, and enough heart and grit to spare. They run and tree a coon the way a hound is supposed to.

The day I cant make a trip to Indiana and hunt with a Joker pup will be a sad day for me!

Joker pups are by far the most consistantly alike pups I have ever been around. By this I mean almost all of them look, act, sound and hunt basicly alike. What I would like to know is this because Joker is just that dominating or is it because he is being crossed on such heavily Clover bred bitchs? Are the pups dominated by Joker or by the level of line breeding? Whatever it is....it is working. I've seen plenty enough to have figured that much out.

Jim,

I'm not tooting a horn, but the Joe dog that I hunted the last time you and I were out...he's out of Joker and Powder. Powder is NOT heavy Clover bred...She's out of Rat Attack, and a Finley River bred female.....

From what I've seen....Joker is stamping them pretty hard...regardless of what he's bred to.

Nightmare...

I'm not taking anything away from Maniac. Nothing at all. He's put some nice dogs on the ground....and I wish him all the best of luck in the future...

But right now, I think the biggest difference between the two dogs is that while Maniac has been bred for several of his 13 years, Joker has only been breed for a very few of his. Joker had two litters of pups before he was 8 years old, and all of the pups out of him that we are discussing besides one was born in the last three years. Most of Joker's pups have never gone to a hunt, not because they can't win....but because the guys that own them don't value the hunts as much as they value owning a coondog. Some have been offered large sums of money for their dog, but are more interested in owning a good hound than they are having money.

Besides that, the man that started the post asked about Joker, not Maniac.

Joe, I've got a female that Im planning on having bred in late April. I've narrowed it down to three dogs and two of them are directly out of Whitey. Joker and Riverbend Style here near my home in Tennessee. I, like you, believe that a dog throws the average of its litter. With that being said, wow what a litter Joker is out of. Joker, White trash, Dolly, Molly, Abby is one powerful litter and in my opinion could be marked as one of the greatest ever as far as BALANCED coondogs. Ive seen almost all but Joker go and was wondering if his pups hunt the same way the rest of this litter does? Also what parts of this litter's hunting style comes from Whitey and what did they Iowa dogs contribute? Thanks
Roger Wilson

How many pups does joker have on the ground ????

Posted by Luvmyhorse on 01-31-2009 08:43 PM:

Not a lot. He had about 15 or 16 pups until he was about 8 years old. He was hunted and not bred most of his life until we got him. Most of his pups are 3 years and younger. Why do you ask?

I am trying to learn about this dog. I have always thought along with other people that Maniac Jr was the most over looked stud out there.
His pups speak for him.

I have never heard of Joker until now

I think you can see by what folks are posting from all over that have hunted with his offspring think. We like him. He had a successful competition career, and is now enjoying his retirement with us. We sure are enjoying the pups we have raised out of him.

Roger,

Joker is about like the rest of that litter. He's a little more of a "loner"....won't take second tree to anything...He got ate up as a pup, and won't cover another dog....they can cover him...he does not care, but if they beat him to the tree...you'll find him somewhere else...that's probably the biggest difference, and it's more from his experience with an older female when he was 9 months old.

His pups are pretty much carbon copies. The get gone, get struck pretty easily, don't say a ton on the ground, and are looking to get hooked up with a coon. Not "overpowering" tree dogs, but you won't have to scratch your head and wonder if they are treed.

I never got the chance to hunt with the Sadie dog, but have heard that she was quite the operator....so honestly, I can't tell you what the Iowa County impact was to these dogs. Joker's momma was out of Gary Starns Sadie dog...I think she won walker days once...or maybe the Lee Crawford hunt...Joker's momma's sire was Harry, and of course I will always believe that the best part of Harry was from his momma....so you basically have doubled up on the clover.

I can say this with near certainty. Joker (and he was the only one in the litter that got this) got his color from the Iowa County line. Now in all the pups I've raised out of him, there has only been one blanket back, tan headed pup...( and I had to give her away cause everyone wants an ugly dog from me.)
