A bad 02 sensor cant cause your computer to go bad. When an 02 sensor goes bad it causes your fuel/air mixture ratio to become either rich or lean. This causes your vehicle to either run a little rough or use more gas. It just isnt possible for an 02 sensor to cause the computer to die. Especially on an older OBD I system.

You are right, it won't hurt the computer but it can make the engine fail to run or loaded up with black smoke from overfueling.

yup me too

but that check engine light can mean anything--

u can pay for an O2 sensor in gas saved-

nyways--- you can read codes yourself -

you can reset it by just pulling a fuse-- you dont need to remove battery - -

All 1980-1995 and including 1995 EFI equipped vehicle allow you to find engine and related faults by pulling the ECU (computer) codes without the need for a handheld OBDII diagnosis scanner, the sites listed below have the fault codes needed to pull the codes and the instructions on how to do it:

True, an O2 Sensor won't kill your computer, but will cause the vehicle to stop running. Have repaired many at the shop I worked my dad owned when Iwas younger. We got alot of vehicles we had to tow in for that problem. We had the actual Sun Code tester with full diagnostics system. Checking the codes and replacing early before it becomes a major problem can save you alot of money in the long term. Usually you will find it to be a quick and inexpensive fix if caught early, compared to a tow bill and repair.

light on

Had the same thing with mine a while back, opened the hood, pulled the fuse for the 02 sensor and it went away but then would come back on. I ran two tanks of gas through it with fule injector cleaners and have not seen the light on since and that was several months ago. JMO but a cheap try anyways

Not a safe thing to do, on some models doing this will activate the steering lock.
