as my old hog farmer buddy would say pretty dont count till the dust seatles down.all coon hounds ext lepeards all started from fox hounds if not ukc has lied to us for years now. but any way. i do not care what it looks like if it trees a coon i will hunt a goat if it would run coons up a tree and stay there. but now as far as me reg and promoting a dog and selling pups i think they need to be a match to the breed reg that they belong too.i saw a guy at a bench show that has blueticks and all where big titled dogs and he came from two states away to show at this little back woods coon club and if i was walking pass a dog kennel or pound i would bet you 500 bucks that the dogs he had where bird dogs., i even knew of a dog that made grand show ch that was fix'd show how much the judges where looking at the breed standerd. funny thing was the one who saw it and spoke up was a young kid, i was there to hear it the kid said daddy that dog aint got any ball's then everyone look and the $%%% hit the fan. and have you ever heard any one ask where can i find a high tan black and tan?????????? that was what the b@t should look like not this dobberman lab cross we see today.. any way just my 2 cents worth but i think ukc can and should help fix this problem. i know they dont see it as that and only see the cash flow off of it as do some of the breeders ,

Definitely kick out the liver blueticks and chocolate B&t's that get registered.

Seen a pic not to long ago of a tri colored english -- but owner said it's a bluetick and was registered as a bluetick -- not as english.

It starts with the breeders holding back the papers on these dogs. Remember papers don't tree coons so it shouldn't be a problem.

But they make their $$$ selling those type of pups and then you have buyers breeding liver blueticks and chocolate B&T's -- and some cases advertising them as a rare breed with marked up $$$ like you see in other breeds where people are trying to capitalize on a very undersirable flaw.

I have own grade hounds, crossbreed hounds, and had a litter of crossbreed pups.

I have no problem with the off breed off colored stuff out there --- leave them grade.

If every judge would judge according to the breed standard and not their own personal preference, or how "flashy" a dogs coloring makes them look than their wouldn't be a problem.

I'm sick to death of the "show dog" verses "hunting dog" arguement. When you get down to it, a hound that is true to breed standard will be one that can get the job done and look good doing it! They must have both ability and correct breed type. These two groups tend to forget that in their arguement, and it leaves people like us, who do both, stuck in the middle and VERY frustrated!

UKC can not be expected to police every dog that is registered, why try and make it a UKC problem? Why not blame the true bad boy here and point the finger at breeders who pass on false papers, cross hounds or have "oopsies" and register them as pure breds, the buyers who then buy those dogs seeing that they are not to breed standard, and those who then choose to breed those un-favorable dogs just to "see what they get?"

These things can happen naturally between two registered dogs, I'm not saying every breeder who has an off-colored pup born is shady. But the thing is, ALL these hounds with very few exceptions go back to the same breeds of dogs. You will occasionally have a recessive gene pop up with those odd color combo's occasionally. But as a breeder, buyer, owner, and exhibitor it should be up to YOU to cull these dogs yourself.

I suppose that UKC could just say here are your choices of color on the registration papers. If they don't match one of those, then tough. No registration, no option for single registry. But then people would complain that they can't get dear old Princess registered and UKC is being unfair...

DNA I agree is the way to go...and the crossbreeding happens , as bad as "silver labs" right on the money saying they promote the different as special or better to charge a premium.

There isn't a breed out there that doesn't have some ghosts in the closet, you can't expect UKC to clean this up on their own. The dogs that don't meet standards should be culled as soon as they are recognized by the breeder, thats how we fix this problem. Now , the problem is not enough people will do it. That's why we have Yellow Redbones, Liver Blueticks, Chocolate Black & Tans, and Black & Tan looking Walkers with Monkey Faces. If I'm looking to buy a dog to tree a coon I can look past the paint job, and have on numerous occasions. If I'm looking for a show dog, then the paint job is very important. But above all, the most important colors are Gray, Cinnamon, or White as long as the tail rings are visible. As long as the dog can show me these colors up a tree, it can eat my feed.

It's not the UKCs job to clean up the mess. It is our job as breeders to police ourselves. Most of us wouldn't breed a dog that had absolutely no ablity, why breed a dog that doesn't have the conformation. We purchase pups out of deformed dogs. We sell dogs that do not meet the breed standards.

There was a topic about buying a dog from a show breeder and all the hoops that had to be jumped through. I don't think all of that is needed however some of it is wouldn't hurt. We sell intact dogs to people that don't know any better that will breed that dog and produce more crap. A simple check of a box that removes the ability to register pups wouldn't hurt. A few health checks to make sure we are not passing on genetic deformities wouldn't hurt either.
