One of the worst animals for worms is a cow. I don't care how much you worm a cow they still have worms. And I love a big, fat, juicy steak. Cooked medium with a good warm pink center. A little A-1 and I know the cow I'm eating probably had worms in all it's stomachs and all its blood vessels. YUMMMMYYYYY! I asked a doctor one time about killing any animal and eating it and not knowing if it had rabies or not. His answer= If it is cooked properly and not eaten raw your good to go. He told me the heat would kill everything if COOKED properly!!!! I've eaten about everything. Some things I wish I wouldn't have. Coon is good, anything you work for and tend to yourself is always good.

Im not good at Cooking them, but have a friend, that BBQs a few for me in the winter. I like the Racoon, BBQ, in a sandwich.
My favorite thing is watching someone who dosnt know what it is go on and on, about how good the sandwich is. LOL

I've eaten a lot of different kinds of game in my lifetime, and I liked most of it...but I just can't bring myself to try coon. I deal with a good many older colored gentlemen at work who BEG me to get them some coon meat. They've even offered to pay me, even though I'd never worry about charging them money for the meat. I gave one to a man right before Thanksgiving and he sure was excited-he came back in the next week and told me how good it was. Most of them tell me that the meat is great barbequed, and one of the ladies said that she likes to make it sort of like a pot roast. I think I'll just take their word for it...
I have made this post many times. Coon is very good if prepared correctly.
Young coon is best. Remove as much fat as possible. Most important thing is make sure the little white lymph glands are removed! If ya miss one it will ruin the meal. I cube mine up to control the amount of fat. I parboil it for 1-11/2 hours. Longer for older coon. Then I bar-be-que it in the oven for 1 hour.
It taste exactly like beef pot roast.
Now, I have news for everyone all wild animals have worms true, but many domestic animals do also. That is why pig is not kosher. Also some worms encyst in the meat. Freezing doesn't necessarily kill cyst. Cooking your meat well done is the only sure fire way to make sure every thing is dead.
People who teach parasitology have a saying, "be sure to hockey puck it.".

All glands (musk glands)must be removed before cooking it is a must or the meat will taste bad. Glands are pale fleshy balls that look like tiny kidneys located around the neck area in the rear crease of the rear legs and under arms of the front legs.
have never though about eating a coon. but thier are some things ive ate that I wish I hadent. lol
