Great post Mr Lambert. You sound like an alright guy even if you do hunt them reddogs.....

P.S.....Congrats on the domination at the other KC's Ms. state hunt.

It would seem to me that a world hunt should be where there are plenty of coon. I know I wouldn't want to compete where the population is scarce. Down here in FL it is better some nights than others, and sometimes the walk to the tree is rough and long. I would like to see how the outcome would be if it was held in different states evn down here.

world hunt

Is it going to be in East Tn this year Richard? If so, thats kinda of exciting, it doesn't matter though because I can't get out of the stupid zones.

I for one would be happy for eny of you guys to have the hunt thats in west ky. every yr. get one of those 2 wk hunts for about 25 yrs. and you will be glad to get rid of. the land owners get tire of it, the deer hunter hate it, the game love to write those 233.00 trespasing ticket, to out of state guides. our season comes in a wk. later and the coon are run to death. this bunch don,t care if they tree a coon or not, just ask the one,s that won the ss . they didn,t turn down the money. lol

Well I guess it's fact that North Georgia has the toughest hunting conditions in America and only the best of coondogs can make it in the south. LOL The hunting gets tough at some point during the year no matter where you hunt IMO. I know one thing for sure though, if I had a dog that was extremely good in North Georgia under those trying conditions there is nothing in this world that could keep me from going to the World Hunts and Big Money/truck hunts in the north and cleaning up. I'd be a richer man and famous rather than infamous in the coon hunting world.

i think your wrong about comeing up north & cleaning up.most dogs that come from the south are differnt here in northen indiana . please buy your best and come for a hunt. and thats the same with most indiana hounds they cant go south and clean house. most dogs half to ajust in differnt terrian.

I'm from Pennsylvania not the south but if a dog is great in very thin coon populations then I would think they would be dynamite in thick coon. I was in Northern Indiana hunting tyhis past weekend with Joe Newlin and it seemed very similiar to what I'm used to in Pennsylvania. I got to see some nice dog work from Joe's fine hounds and look forward to taking my own hounds out and hunting with him again.

Just from my experience I have seen a lot of dogs that come from other states, and they have a hard time the first time or two that they get hunted down here because we have alot different type of hunting. Im not saying that they aint as good they just are not used to it down here. Ive hunted in quite a few different places and from my experiece the better dogs come from where there is fewer coon. It takes a better dog to tree a coon where their isnt hardly any, I think that, that would be common sense. Just my opinion

Posted by MikeO on 11-18-2008 07:12 PM:

flora IL, would be an excellent spot.

personally i like seeing it held where there is a good coon population. not where you walk through the woods tripping over coons but you can still tree a few every cast and dogs can get split.

mjflores, northwest Georgia is hard due to so few coons. We have areas here in west NC that are the same, also east Tennessee, as well as other places in the US. I'm sure that you are right about where you live in the winter time and the coons are not moving.

Smokey's dog sounds like many good coon dogs that don't make in competition due to holes that only affect competition, not coon hunting. I know that many on here believe that if it is not a good competition dog that it's a cull. Believe it or not, there are many more pleasure hunters then competition hunters. Good coon dogs that take a minute or two to check a tree before locking down won't win many hunts today. When they do it's usually because the others messed up.

Some dogs look great in thin coon and are useless in thick coon. Some dogs look great in thick coon but are useless in thin coon. The real good ones look good most anywhere they get turned loose.

And no, I don't know Smokey. And yes, I also competition hunt as well as pleasure hunt.

Anyone who bashes coon off a feed bucket, has never hunted coon! A coon smells the same, runs the same, acts the same as a coon that's been feeding on a bucket, or a blueberry swamp, or a beech nut thicket, or a corn field, or a mulberry grove, etc. Half your "wild" coon you treed just got done eating out of somebody's cat food dish or bird feeder. Give me a freakin break. Talk about excuses. Maybe you're all just after vegan coon?

smokey7, I can tell you that michigan is not near as easy to hunt as you seem to think. Yes we have a lot of coons in some places but some are as thin as you have. This place can also be as ruff as anything you hunt. You come for a hunt some time and you will be happy to get back to north ga.

i agree 110% i guess some can only tree a coon that ain,t had enything to eat, that way they are to weak to run. do some really think that coon don,t eat enywere but feeders.

don,t guess enyone wants this hunt down here

I believe it would be best to have the hunt in South Alabama. There is not too many coons or not enough coons down here. It is just right. I believe it would be good to have it at the Tensaw-Delta down close to Mobile,Alabama.

NOTICE I SAID "DEEP SOUTH". I lived in North Carolina for 8 years and spent many days and nights hunting there. In fact I qualified there in 08. IT DOESN'T EVEN COME CLOSE TO COMPARING TO CENTRAL FLORIDA HUNTING!
I have made this offer many times, hell I am not gonna give you gas money or pay for a plane ticket, just get here and I will PROVIDE THE REST! That includes a room to stay in, a kennel for your BEST dog, the truck, dog box, gas, and I'll buy all your food while you are here. Just come on down and see Central Florida for yourselves. When it is all over you report the "truth" as you observed it.

IM TALKING ABOUT ALL THE HOUNDS THAT JUST HUNT ON FEEDERS YEAR AROUND. YES WE HAVE CORN AND BEEN FEILDS BUT SOMETIME YOU CANT EVEN BUY A COON AROUND EITHER ONE. MOST PEOPLE THINK THE HUNTING IS EASY AT NORTHERN INDIANA COME DOWN OR UP AND WE WILL JUST SEE WHAT KIND OF HOUND YOU GOT THIS TIME OF YEAR!!!
