So, I would offer that what any hound does have instead is a KILL DRIVE... driven by movement (for a sighthound) or scent (for a scent hound) and that drive is on a deep, genetic level.

In other words, your old hound - the same one that lets the baby roll on him on the floor, sits next to you in the truck, and will lay down it's life for your wife, is indeed at a base level a killer when he's hunting.

You aint seen these ga deer have you? They are pretty mean! Lots of them killed around here with canine teeth...

Nope, I've never been to the south....yet. It's on my "some day" list, but I don't have any family farther south than AR.
There's a few deer that have died here in CA by canine teeth. I've only witnessed it once and it wasn't intentional, but deer hunting with hounds was (might still be) a big deal in the town my husband grew up in.
