Family?

That's not necessarily true. Only 4 of ours were sold here local. Kept 2 and 8 went out of state and they weren't $150 pups. I'm sorry if that's been your experience but it's not the same for everyone.

we've had lots of chances to sell dogs out of state.
just pointing out that a 150$ pup could be sold in 2 saturdays at walmart in our neck of the woods. Our pups sell for 350-400$.

The internet is not a fool proof way to sell pups. Thats why the ukc has disclaimers at the top of the page/classifieds. honest folk have said its a "cull recycling site".....there are some trusted folks a smart person could research on line and off.hey I've been bit.
but I'd never rejoice at the lack of another...its against my religion...ellie

Majestic is capitilizing on a specific trait and breeding program...I feel not necessarily coon hounds. Special well culled and breed hounds.jmo.... I dont know for sure....but hes pushing his limits and reaping the rewards for going out on a limb....he aint breeding just coonhounds...

dont take things personally..... take the whole thread at once...atleast thats how I do it, its easier to understand the WHOLE TRUTH..

I'm just curious, as are allot of others. You mentioned you trained them for a few months. Can you tell us what that involved? What they were doing at the time of sale? Maybe others here will send their pups to you for training, who knows?

Hey, where is your Wal-Mart, I've been kicked out of the parking lot 2 times. and Menards. The deal here is that locals don't competition hunt hardly at all, so I'd like to go out of state and spread the blood around a bit where it might have a chance to grow. Does anyone feel safe about sending a pup with a guy thats going to another state in order to get the dog there, pay for his gas a little in trade for the dogs transport? Has it worked well for anyone, I'm kind of leary, but I'd like to get a pup to KY, not sure how I'm going to do it?

The story of the guy with the jet, thats pretty cool.

Your Walmart is located in the center of everything. Go to the Gas Station on the Corner of the entrance to the Walmart...

They all look alike i've seen em.

And Put out a sign on the corner....two sided leaning like a tee-pee.." Pure Blooded Coon Hounds 150$ with Papers"

Hell Ive seen whole litters of half walker half --some stray go for 50$ each...

Most people buying a lab or some kind of lap dog know they will keep the dog till it dies of old age. When your going through a couple pups to find a good one, most people just can't afford to pay $1000 a pup.

Wow, we've come along way since 86 j/k, I've had 4 dogs, all 4 turned out to be good coondogs, maybe I'm lucky, but I haven't had to search through dog after dog. Thats why I'll pay a high price because I haven't had duds. Again, not saying there aren't duds, but I don't see that so much as what I hear, maybe a dud very few years from people, but not enough to drop prices. maybe when people get a dog cheap they don't care so much if it turns out? if they put in $600 bucks on a pup maybe they'd give the pup a fair shot and some better training.

Posted by mjflores on 10-07-2008 12:11 AM:

I'm still hoping to learn more about the trainign you mentioned Steve. You can just tell everyone that someone paid you $1000. for training a young dog and not expect some questions can you? Can you tell us what you do for the training, and what stage the dog was at when it left you and your training sessions? We're all very curious. Do you have any of your training photos? was it coon hunting or bear hunting, maybe both? Looking forward to your response and hopefully photos!

Maybe I'd like to buy a magestic puppy out of the next litter, and get it at 6 months of age...that's 4 months of training at $250 per month. Can you tell me what the training will involve? And what I can expect my new puppy to be doing at that time? I dont see why that's so hard to answer. This is a heck of a way to treat a perspective new customer. You didn't seem to have any trouble mentioning the $1000 you charged that guy with the plane...why wont you tell me? and all of us here? Whens the next litter and how much to get first pick? Will you deliver to NH?

just my opion

Breeding is not for everyone i am sorry to hear that you have had trouble selling your pups but in this buiesness your reputation is evry thing and do not take this the wrong way but being a young man that is just a senior in college how much reputation do you have if you have hunted your dog locally and with several people and they all like him as much as you do you would have a list as long as your leg of people wanting pups out of him now i hope i have not upset you but we all find dogs that we love and you must have to go throughall of the raising, training, single reg.,and breeding your dog but when people are looking to buy they want proven bloodlines and that is hard to get when you breed to a single reg. dog it is just as hard when you sell pups from untitled parents people want a world better for nothing and two many people have taken a chance and got burned before and truth be known most people are lazy they want a pup they can tie up and finally turn it loose when it gets about 1 yr old and it runs and trees in a night or two and not all do.
my point is if you like your male and he is what you wanted a pup out of then even if you give the other 4 away then you are still money ahead in the pricing you are setting i always asked my self when making a cross can i go buy what i will get cheaper than raise it in my opion no because it will be a special dog to me if i raise it and i geuss i have just been lucky because i have never had trouble selling the balance.

Posted by The Guide on 10-07-2008 04:24 AM:

No you didn't upset me, Your right, thats the whole idea, I wanted a pup out of him and thats what I got. I thought well, if all goes well with selling the rest of them great, if not oh well. I'm just surprised at how different the coonhound market is from, for example labs. Growing up with labs and how they sell really took me for surprise with coonhounds. Not that I'm upset with this, but very surprised. I do know what you mean by reputation, and having titles etc. and that does make a difference, because I too shop the same way, (my local rep is very good, and I'm down a couple of pups now due to locals finally buying them) but I never thought papers and titles would make this much difference, because even labs have titles etc. but, even unregistered labs still sell for good prices. I should have seen it coming, but oh well, that just means I need to title these dogs and bolster my marketing and have websites, etc. if I want to get a few hundred a pup, to me I'm not sure thats worth it for that purpose, but hey, I'm just doing it to get a coondog for myself anyway, if I spread his bloodline around the world great, I'd love to, but it may or may not happen, Not sure I'll take it that far, we'll see.

I used to do the night hunt thing every night, but this was before he was registered, so I always hunted b&t's for my good friends in WI, MN, Iowa, 6 days a week I was in the woods and night hunts all weekend and maybe on weekdays too, so yes and no to my AGE being a factor, because I do believe its the MILES, I've judged and guided and hunted many many hunts. Thats why I made the name THE GUIDE a few years ago when I joined this forum.

Thanks for the input, I'm just trying to get a feel for what who when where and how pups will sell.

I can't stand how the smaller the dog the more expensive it is. Especialy if you consider the smaller the dog the more usless it is. In my part of WI its not uncommon for coondogs to go for $100 or less some times I see them $200 but thats usually a started dog

How can coonhounds be so cheap? And so much more work is put into them. (nothing against lab owners, they do put in work) To me a coonhound is worth so much more.

well, im NOT about to spend $1000 on a pup just because its a coonhound pup... i wouldnt spend more than maybe $300 for a 8-9wk old pup. i wouldnt spend no $1000 for a lap dog either- people are out of their minds... wheather you spend $250 or 2 grand theres NO garuntee that puppy is going to be a coondog... no matter what the pedigree or what the sire and dam have won- its still a gamble along with a LOT of work and countless trips to the woods, before you have any idea if that pups gonna turn out or not... and with fuel prices sky high and high cost of everything else due to it- ill be dammed if im gonna pay a small fortune for a PUPPY. ive never been one to pay a whole lot for a dog- to me a dogs a dog, and as long as its a coondog and suits me it it dosnt make it any less of a dog because i paid $500, than a dog someone paid $2500 for

true 75 dollars is pretty cheap for a dog but i agree with m4rcut that dog is not proven to the rest of the hunting world it doesn't have a grand night or even a night champ status and thats what most people look for in a dog. me personally i could care less if it's a poodle as long as it will tree a coon

glad to hear

that you have sold a couple locally that is where it starts they hunt them and people see what you are breeding and then they are interested in your pups because lets faceit you can have the best dog in the world and if it does not produce than you can not give pups away got to go.
