-- hounds barking in the kennel (http://forums.ukcdogs.com/showthread.php?threadid=230511)
I have had coonhounds my whole life. I got into foxhounds a while back and have 20 head that you dont even know they are on the place. They just dont bark and act stupid around the house. Now as far as the coonhounds go, most pups and young hounds will bark at anything that moves even a leaf blowing across the yard. Some figure out that dad dont put up with the barking, others need some persuasion. I have had tri-tronics bark collars for years, but the best ones I've ever had were the DOGTRA rechargable ys-500. These collars are hotter than tri tronics. Ive had too many that bark through the tri-tronics, but not the ys-500. It will "lay em down". Has anyone else noticed that the young dog that barks and acts stupid in the pen, is usually the one standing by your feet in the woods? Just my experiences.
PAINTBALL GUNS
Also have another very good purpose.....When you live in the country and all the neighbors dogs come visit, BUT, the neighbors say their dog don't rome....Well, try shooting one with a paintball gun a few times...When they go home all colored up like a rainbow, the dog seems to stop coming for unwanted visits.
Some of them are even manage staying being behind the fence like they should have been in the fist place..We had a blast for a while. It was like an unspoken....'OH YES, YOUR DOGS DO ROME'..The neighbors got the message and there were never any feuds over it...
Barkers are a pain in the behind....I have one night barker and one day time barker....I use those nylon bark muzzles...The night time barker gets hers put on before we turn in for the night. The day time barker wears hers when we are outside, because that is usually when she is out of control with the barking. (both are Walkers)..Only thing about the muzzles is, you have to make some sort of schedule for it..Figure out when the barking problem occurs..Cause they can't keep it on 24/7.

God Bless And Good Hunting
I live in town so I can't have my dog barking up a storm. The pup is too little to make much of any noise at all...yet. I started teaching the dog to be quiet with a "HUSH!" command in the house. She's allowed to bark a few times when someone knocks on the door then told HUSH! if she doesn't stop. The pup is being trained the same way.
Outside its the same thing. She's allowed to bark at people that come up the driveway but after a bit she has to stop. Once the pup gets more vocal outside, she'll be trained the same way here also.
I think pups tend to pick up what the older dogs do. The pup already knows she has to sit and wait for me to tell her she can eat. I won't allow a dog to jump around and act the fool at feeding time.
