I think Ky is one of the best places as far as training dogs in different types of terrain. The coons are not as thick as michigan but not as thin as say Ga. The walking in Ky can vary from easy to very hard. lol.

But, if i had a choice to hunt all the time it would be Michigan. I love all the coons and the flat land. TIm

Is that why they have all the World Champ hunts up there

Around here it is usually on land where you are not supposed to hunt.

I always thought it was interesting and made good sense. When he asked himself the same question, he settled on Missouri. Decent coon poppulation and moderate temps year around.

YEP MISSOURI....lots of open country with lil towns inbetween...and no economy to keep ya'll out...hehehehe.

I respect what everyone on here is saying but if there is anywhere better to coon hunt than mid Michigan let me know. I have hunted a few nights up there and the coon population is ridiculously high. I got an uncle up there and a dozen in a night is just an average night for him. It takes weeks down here in southeastern Kentucky to tree that many.

This is very true. I like hunting in MO, but in the Northern Part there is almost too much open ground and pasture for my liking. I have never crossed so many wire fences as when I lived there. Cows galore.

I am biased since it is my "hometown" but the western part of PA is about the prettiest place I have ever hunted. The ground is not dead flat, but it sure isn't hills there is a very nice mix of about 2/3 woods and swamps and 1/3 crops mostly corn. The weather can be tough in the heat of the summer and the dead of winter, but the rest is just beautiful especially in the Fall. We also have a very healthy coon population to boot. I live about 20 miles from where Youth Nationals was held this year.

North Central OK and South Central KS. Have hunted for 21 years and have only ran into one other hunter. No houses and section line roads. Easy flat land hunting and almost all of it is accesible with your pick up.

NW OHIO if you can't be treeed with in 1 min or 2 and 100 yards from the truck it must be very very nasty out. we got lots of corn fields creeks and river bottoms.COME HUNT ANY TIME.

Anywhere that:
-You ask for permission and the landowner says, "well, hell yes, kill 'em all!!"
-Roads every mile, and straight North/South/East/West
-corn trees and water with a nice mowed path between the corn and trees.
-creeks that can be crossed anywhere anytime but never run dry
-good club within 10 miles that has all the events you like and willing to try new ones. All the other members live way on the other side of the club and hate your hunting and never come there.
-1 car a night coming down the road while you're hunting is unusual.
- you can let your pups run loose and nobody within 2 miles cares
-2-3 miles between houses and they are the landowners mentioned above
-a $75,000 a year job, the only one in the county, and you've got it.
-big enough town within a 30 minute drive with shopping enough to keep the wife happy
-small town very close with grocery store, farm store and the best small school in the state

Anybody knows where this place is, PM me. Don't post it on here.

I do like that northern Indiana and Ill in the spring because of the coon population. In the hot summer Minn, Mich sounds great Start heading south 100 miles each week the first of November. You should reach the gulf just in time to head back north. I would attempt to stay west of the Miss, River fewer blacktops and people. I like hunting locations where you don't hear highway noise, lap dogs barking, house lights, train whistles or extra gun fire. If a car does come by they stop to see if you need help and invite you to hunt their land if you promise to take the coon.

Large pecan orchards the first of November. Grass is mowed short for picking the pecans, you can stand in one spot and see 5 to 8 trees with coon in them.

I would say-

Southern Michigan- Sure as Kellam says hard winters and quite time shuts us down some (that's why we invented ice fishing and horseshoes) BUTTTTTTT- No snakes that can kill ya (but some nettles that can come purty darn close).

And if it takes 1200-1500+ points to win a hunt around here there must be alot of coon.
