I was dumbfounded last night when I read about Ron. I did not know him personally but had spoken to him a few times last year when I was trying to get Ga's youth auction up and running. It was my first year working with the youth hunters and He was VERY, VERY helpful in getting us started. I know from the work we put in that his long hours of working for the kids has to come from the heart. It takes a special man to devote his time to others. Not only has the coonhunting community lost a great man, but the world as a whole has lost a man that made it a better place through his deeds and day to day devotion to his family and others. It hurts my heart to try to fathom what his family is going through. Nothing any of us can say will stop the pain. We can only take comfort in the knowledg that he his home with those that have gone before us and he is still doing God's work. Only difference is now we won't be able to see him, only feel his presence when he touches the lives of those he loved in this world. Please let his family know that my sincerest condolences and prayers are being sent. If you need any help with continuing the auction please call me.
Sam

I am shocked to see this. I just spoke with Ron, what was it, two weeks ago when he called discussing the Florida State Youth Hunt. It was pretty obvious that he cared about the youth in his area and was wanting to put on the best event they possibly could. I did not know Ron other than a few conversations we had on the phone. I did just recently, however, ask someone who knew Ron, what kind of a guy he is as he seemed to be a pretty nice fella whenever I spoke with him. The response given was that he is "a good man and a straight shooter". My condolences to the Priest Family.
I went to the viewing last night. I can honestly say, I don't think that I have ever seen that many people at a viewing. I think it speaks volumes of what kind of man Ron was. I had an opportunity to talk with Ron's wife. She was holding up very well. They had a very formal environment at the Funeral home. However, in the middle of the front room, they had set up a table with coon hunting memorabeilia. They had his nite champion's papers and certificate along with lights, collars, and other UKC papers. It was very touching as Ron hunted a lot in the past couple of years. He dedicated all of his free time to making sure that local youth had an opportunity to go to the woods. I saw a few dog boxes in the parking lot. I was told by Ron's wife, that she was very touched by the amount of "stangers to her" had showed up to pay their respects. She was very thankful for that. Ron will be missed.
