in mho, I've hunted off of feeder buckets in the winter to get a quicker drop time. hide hunting. but stop on any creek with a corn field on the way to the bucket spot and its just as fast or faster.

hunting in competion hunts on feeder buckets.........you dont have hunting coon dogs....working coon dogs.any cur dog half breed can learn about the buckets and go to that spot....ITS JUST NOT REAL HUNTING>>> JMO.

dropping dogs and having them work out a bad or old track .....and turning it into a smokin hot track 300-500 yards away.....and blowin the top off of the tree at the end of it.....Thats a know when to be quite know when to move it coon dog.....If ya dont own one ya dont hunt enough.....its in there blood ....

except that alligators, raccoons, opossums,

powered lights not exceeding 6 volts (12 volts
for alligators) or fuel type lanterns may be
carried by hunters for locating these animals.

I guess I'm still not seeing the arguement when people are against feed buckets, although I do in a Nite Hunt I suppose. Still, if I hunt a dog off buckets...most of the time they dont go toward the bucket, I cut em lose on the trail in..and then take a left or right and start hunting. When I take em to a place with ne feed bucket, like a corn field or blueberry bog, they hunt the same.

One thing I'd never do is SHOOT a coon off a feeder bucket..Thats what all the WMA's in the state are for..

Here is the deal with the feeders, if you draw out with a guide or guides friend and go there most of the time their dogs will go stright to the feeders to get a track going because they are conditioned that way.,after the first tree every thing is even JMO

I have a small woods i train in , no feeders but managed for bunnies and coon and deer, after about 3 nights with the same dog if he has any brains it will beeline to this small ditch where i can strike a coon ANY night of the year. no matter from which direction i cast from.JMO

Smokey I knew you were a stickler for the rules lol...I didnt figure anybody hunted with a six volt anymore!! Mine ainT.... I also dont have any coon feeders out..All mine are DEER FEEDERS!!!!! I cant help it if the coon eat it....I have a sign up that says DEER ONLY...

I'm not against the use of buckets and have used plenty in the past. Here's what I think, for what it's worth...

- Buckets are great for starting a pup or a young dog by itself.

- Depending on the type of dog you are hunting they can be good or bad. If you have a dog that "has too much tree" you'll most likely tree more bucket then you do coon because they tree on the first hint of scent.

- They come in real handy if your in an area where your coon population is low and hunting areas are slim. (We all don't live in areas where coonfield run for miles)

I was in a hunt last month that I traveled quite a distance to go to. I withdrew my dog in 25 minutes because the quide was dumping us 15 yards from buckets and it was just a big mess. Dogs were getting hooked on the first tree they came to. I stayed with the cast for the remainder of the hunt and they made 5 trees, all of them were empty.

Personally with the dog that I am currently hunting I prefer to freecast him and have him run a "wild" track and tree it at the end.

Not to brag on my dog but I entered him in 6 NTCH cast and won 5 of them. The 5 hunts that he won no buckets were used. Again, I'd say it depend on the style of dog your hunting whether you agree or disagree with using them. JMO, wd
